Is "she" your one and only?

Quick question.

Forum marketing is a popular answer to, "how do I get traffic" ...right?

Well, aside from posting here at the Warrior Forum (edit: note: not necessarily for traffic):

Do you participate in other forums?

For example, do you post on popular video game, sports or dating forums? Do you do it for branding, research, product development, etc. purposes, or just plain fun.

I'm curious. What do you usually think/do about this?

I didn't realize the Warrior Forum was a "she".

That would explain a bunch of stuff.

On a more serious note ... I do actually recommend this to my copywriting students.

For example, it's a good idea for them to start out in a particular field, i.e. "dating"... so they can brand themselves (at least initially) as the dating copywriter. By hanging around in dating forums, they can learn more about what makes people "tick" in this field, their "hot spots" and so on. (That's HOT spots... not G spots )

Plus, if they can promote (in a subtle way) their copywriting services (with their sales letter adapted for that niche) they may eventually draw the attention of product creators in the dating field.

By getting to spend some time in a niche forum, you get to know the psychology and way of thinking of people in that niche, and what's important to them... although you need to bear in mind it's still a SUBSET of that niche (i.e. those on the Internet).

I like it. Good usp for copywriters. A way to get better and specialize at the same time with good potential for prospecting. Even just for marketing I've heard you can go around placing banner ads in different forums with new language and unique hooks.

Going on the forums is the same as going into social media sites. You introduce yourself and make yourself known and "useful" and tactfully mention what you do. Don't sell anything on any site other than "selling" yourself.

I tell my students that you "gently" migrate them to your blog, and there you migrate them into your email opt-in and then the sales funnel fun begins

Interesting. Yeah people don't like "visit this website, or else the dog gets it" type of ads.

Also I would imagine, if they do click over, and the first thing they see from you is a Squeeze Page, then it's an immediate red flag thing in their mind. It's like an "oh this is a blatant promo" moment in the brain or something.

I get the feeling it's probably a good idea to build a relationship via your blog first.

          Yup.

None of them for marketing porpoises, but I visit a couple on interlinked forums that are about pop culture, and a weightlifting forum, plus one or two about comic books.

Pop culture is addicting. Reading magazine covers is awesome. And I tried weightlifting once if that counts.

Try it again! You could be a paragon of male physical beauty, just like me. Well, not just like me, as I am awesome, but certainly a distant second.

Actually, a distubring large part of my social interactions are forum based. I live in Outer Boondockia, far from civilization, and writing is a not a group activity, so I spend much of my time in front of a computer screen in the woods.

I'm not a very social person, except for being a bit of a forum rat. Probably put too much time (and quality?) into that.
Interesting. I'm curious, have you've tracked the results of this marketing? Other than speed of getting-indexed? Or do you focus mainly on SEO? I get the feeling you enjoy it, but what do you mean by it has it uses? Other than conversation, of course.

                  I get you. See...

This might sound really weird. But I had to stop. It was real embarrassing. Has that ever happened to you? The confusion was too much to bear. People would always see me in public, come up and and accidentally stop me for my autograph thinking I was Brad Pitt.

It was really embarrassing and got out of hand. I had to be all like "no, girls listen you got it all wrong" and I had to tone it down a bit. I even shaved my head to seal the deal because it kept happening.

                  Weird, you know?

Honestly I don't believe there are other forums that are this active. WF is really a phenomenon. There's nothing like this.

In marketing, no, I don't think so. For other stuff, there are definitely forums bigger and more active. The forums at bodybuilding.com for instance, have a ridiculous amount of members and turnover of threads.
