Google Me... the new Facebook?

Do you have any news about Google me
I just received this email:
""Google Me" is Probably Already Bigger Than Facebook
Chris Crum | Staff Writer

The world discovered a little bit more about this mysterious "Google Me" project
this week, when Googlers, including CEO Eric Schmidt opened up (just a little bit)
at the company's Zeitgeist event.

The main thing that has been revealed is that Google Me will not be a new
social network from Google to try and compete with Facebook, but rather a
"social layer" added to existing Google products."

I want to be on the wave , when it starts ...
If it will bring at least 50% of the traffic facebook brings then this will be my christmas present

Exactly. If google just feels their new project will be blast doesn't mean it really would be

Forget Facebook. Do we really need to devote our adult energies to Farmville and Mafia Wars? Whatever happened to Google's efforts to displace PayPal in the micropayment category? To me, Google seems to be getting smaller and less significant every single day.

A good friend of mine was using www.googleme.com.au for his web design business here in Brisbane, and funnily enough, received a take down notice from Google themselves.

Now I guess I know why.

    Google Wave,
    Google Buzz,
    Google Sidewiki,
Mass banning of Adwords and Adsense clients,
Non-existent customer service (they think they are Microsoft),

they are on a roll. Now when I go to Google.com, it redirects me to the Google wave... idiots; wonder how their Adwords customers feel about that? So long Google, hello Bing.

As big as google is, I am very suprised that they can not come up with a better social media than FB. Their format does not come close.

I'm sure lots of companies could come out with a "better" social media platform. However, Facebook has so much steam built up, that locomotive ain't stopping anytime soon.

I've heard rumours that the "social layer" you speak of will be Google going out and grabbing all your social content and centralizing it on their own network. So perhaps it would grab all of your tweets, Facebook wall posts, blog posts and aggregate them in one place. An interesting concept I could see being useful.

However, Google has proven time and time again it can't get social networking right. So time will tell.

    Cheers,
    Matt

I put this in the same context of other big product killers, regardless of the market, there is always a lot of hype but I don't think google will be able to knock off Facebook.

Perfect example, the video game World of Warcraft is the biggest online video game out there with 12 million subscribers. Every month there is a new video game in development that claims that it will kill WoW. But it never happens.

There has to be some big tech advancement to push Facebook out of the picture.

I think Google are just unhappy because they cannot index all those lovely pages on FB ... do not know why FB does not allow fan pages etc to get indexed.

Google have everything in place blogger, youtube, gmail etc ... they just need to come up with a consolidated solution.

I for one will look to use it when if finally launches simply because it will be the new big thing ... this could mark the beginning of the end for FB unless they do some major re-invention

Google have many things that have not worked (wave, buzz?) and many more that have (gmail, maps, earth, android). Remember, these guys are smarter than we think... soon they'll come up with a service that encompasses all of the above and more so you'll have no need to leave their sites.

Facebook are trying for the same but coming from the other side. They started as social media and then moved into search, answers, adwords, phone, movies.

I think you guys got it all wrong. Google isn't going for new Social Networking site, they are going to improve the existing ones. They need to catch up in gathering of social data, so they improve google search results and empower them with SOCIAL aspect.

So you won't be getting searches anymore by algorythm alone, but also with what your friends are liking, tweeting etc...

This can easily be if we grant premissions for already existing social networking sites to Google. Which many of us already did, trough Facebook connect for example for YouTube.

Also I heard that they are going to implement newsfeed like function to YouTube... They are going step by step with this one.

Google me is not gonna be the instant killer of Facebook, it's gonna be slow war for information...

And information is where Google is the king and won't loose the fight, cause loosing would mean the fall of the giant... And shareholders wouldn't be happy would they?
