Hello All,

I have just joined this forum. I am a very experienced developer but a complete newbie when it comes to marketing anything on the Internet. I am now dipping my toe in the water and launching a subscription service. I have no issues on the technical front but would much appreciate any pointers on the practicalities of collecting, and subsequently, accessing sales revenues.

My questions

  • It strikes me that the easiest way to secure payments is going to be using PayPal (Google Checkout sounds nice but given the trouble I have had getting my ad revenues paid out to me I am starting to suspect that they are dishonest). I created a set of "Buy Now" buttons on PayPal within minutes and it all seems to work just fine. Is it really that easy?
  • PayPal offer a credit card which also serves to verify the account. At this early stage in the game it strikes me that this would be the cheapest way of accessing any sales revenues - the alternatives of a US bank account etc will take time and cost money. Does their credit card really come with no strings attached?
  • Finally, and most importantly - the service in question will be marketed by a company I have set up in the US. I live in Europe so it is a virtual company with no physical US presence. Does that mean that I don't have to assume state sales taxes for sales to anywhere in the US? This is the bit I found confusing when I created the buttons - one of the options was to enter a tax rate. I assumed 0%. If that was too naive is there some place where I can read up on US state sales tax issues for online sales for someone in my position?
I really would hugely appreciate all advice.
