Paul is right. Facebook no longer allows the Profile HTML boxes on the side bar - or much of anything else unless it's a Facebook feature. What you can do is add the FBML app to your fan page and then create a landing page with an opt-in box included.

Fan Page Engine is a tool that allows you to do this yourself. There are also some great designers who can create custom pages that include opt-in, video and important info about your business.

My sister and I are social media managers for entrepreneurs and small businesses. When we set up fan pages for clients, we always recommend custom FBML pages. Here's ours as an example. In the next few weeks, we'll also have a YouTube tab on our fan page that will be a direct stream to our YouTube videos.

One caveat on FBML - our designer tells us that Facebook will be doing another of its famous mega-changes come first of the year and FBML will be out. Existing pages will still be supported but new pages will be in an inline format.

Bottom line - definitely figure out how to get your opt-in box on an FBML page. It's one of the best ways to use Facebook as a list-building tool. Hope this helps
