I know some people complain about the possibility of CB messing up the affiliate tracking...there are plenty of threads about that.

My question is:

When people suspect a CB tracking issue, is it because the number of hops decreases, or because the sales stop?

This last week saw my numbers drop like falling off a cliff...way too much of a decrease to be a simple 'downswing'. I've seen those come and go.

The strange thing is that my hops are still being tracked. In other words, where I look to see how many hops I'm sending to each affiliate...THOSE numbers have NOT dropped off.

It's just that CONVERSIONS of all those visits dropped to nothing. Across multiple vendors...and their sales pages haven't changed.

Thoughts?

It is possible that they are simply substituting your link for thier own.

    Example:
    yournickname.merchant.hop.clickbank.net

    Substitute:
    theirnickname.merchant.hop.clickbank.net

If this is the case, use a link tracker. so they dont know it is a Clickbank Hoplink.

In my opinion, the idea of using a "link tracker" doesn't quite stand up to examination. In fact, if you'll excuse the observation, it doesn't begin to stand up to examination at all. Anyone who is already a Clickbank affiliate and has their own hoplink to substitute for yours doesn't need to see your hoplink to know that it's a Clickbank product, do they? They can obviously see that from the order page and the payment page, so "cloaking your link" is hardly going to get past them. (That isn't actually the purpose of link cloaking at all.)

There isn't a way of earning an affiliate commission on a sale to someone who's already an affiliate themselves (unless, possibly, they're so ill-informed that they believe they can't buy it through their own hoplink, I suppose, in which case there'd be no harm in having yours showing anyway, would there?).

Clickbank has also done what it can to prevent people from becoming affiliates specifically in order to do this, with the Customer Distribution Requirement, designed for this express reason, to protect affiliates (without which, of course, the entire system wouldn't really be viable).

This very recent thread offers some relevant information to this scenario, and even a solution to it, as well.

It's not about them seeing the ClickBank order page and trying to get their own hoplink so they get the commissions. That you cannot avoid.

It's more about not displaying the actual hoplink itself to your subscribers. When you display the actual ClickBank hoplink, it's just too easy for them to make it their own.

So you're both and right. You cannot stop a CB affiliate from stealing your commission if he really wanted to, especially in the IM niche where everyone has their own CB account. It's more about making it more difficult for them.

But if you expand your world beyond CB, you'll find link cloaking useful for other networks.

I have experienced the same thing before and I just chalked it up to a downswing. I have not really heard mention before of bad tracking but I haven't looked either.

I imagine its possible though but what's a warrior to do? Call the affiliate police?...lol

Kinda takes me back to the old click fraud days.

Would need a little more information on this to get a better response. First are you sending them to the products page through ppc, review page or email marketing. If you are sending them to the product through a review page it is possible the keyword they originally showed up to your page on was a non buying keyword. There for they where just looking for more information. Also if you are sending them through ppc the same applies as above. Email marketing on the other hand maybe you just didnt presell the item to make them feel as though they really needed the product.

I know what you mean about the drastic swings click bank seems to have all the time. Although more information is really need to help you with your issue.

I have considered that myself but those who know how to do that aint finding products from affiliate websites, that's for sure.

I have found that offering great bonuses and actually giving directions that they need to use my link and look for my id at the bottom of the payment page to get those bonuses is very effective.

A great trick is find a hole in the product your pushing and fill that hole with your own stuff and offer it as a bonus....video tutorials on making the product work is the most effective. This works because it gives some assurance that their investment has a better chance of working out for them.....this also works for the folks that know how to substitute their affiliate id because they want that bonus and are willing to pay full price to get what you are giving away.

Just open a new account, same exact info and just switch out the links. Might be a bit laborious, but your sales will come right back. I've done it several times now and never had a problem

My hops are not tracked correctly either.
I run a Yahoo content campaign and 80% of the clicks aren't tracked by Clickbank.
I've paused the campaign for now

I've had a lot of fraud clicks on the yahoo content network in the past. Their search is good though... It's going to be interesting to see what happens once the merger between bing and yahoo finalizes, but I digress.
