Step by step: Moving a WP blog to a new host and a new name

Hi,

I am moving a wp blog from the test site to the destination and changing the name of the url at the same time (I decided to go after a different niche instead of staying in the same).

I just figured out how to do it... it might be useful for someone, or maybe there is an easier way and you guys can help to get to the best method.

Step 1: backup files and database (check drop if exist).
Step 2: edit database and change the following strings:

1.
[old-host-account-name]/html/[subfolder]/ (I had it in a subfolder of my test site)

to

[new-host-account-name]/html/

2.
http://[old-domain]/[subfolder]

to

http://[new-domain]

Step 4: create database in new host

Step 5: edit wp-admin.php and replace the database information

Step 6: upload files

Step 7: upload database

Step 8: have some green tea...

Hope it helps...
Sandra

There's another step I take; go to PHPmyadmin and click the name of your data base and the wp options link and change your url and email address there because your old url will be listed

I do it before uploading in step 2, when editing the database file.

is it a reason why it´s better to do it after uploading?

Edit: the email address... that´s a good one. Thanks!! I didn´t change it as I use one email for all the sites, or I would be even crazier by now...
