Article Spinning, Rewriting - vs. 100% Unique

It was suggested I copy my question in this forum for some more input.

I am a freelance marketing writer. Most of the time, I am asked to write about subjects I know nothing about. I do my research (other people's opinions) gather authoritative knowledge, when needed, and then put it all together and rewrite what is being said.

When I answer ads for article writers, many times they say, we want unique articles, no spinning or rewriting.

I cannot understand how any article can be 100% unless you are writing from your own personal experience.

Am I wrong? Unless person experience is the foundation, any subject is being written from researching what is said by others, professional and non-professional.

If I am not correct, please let me know. I do not want to be a plagiarist.

    Hi Joyce,

It sounds like you are writing a "unique" article. What people really mean is that they don't want you to just look at 1 other article and then rewrite it using different words or to use a "spinning" tool that replaces synonyms.

It sounds like you are researching the topic properly and gathering the information from a variety of places which you then put into the article. This is exactly what they want when they say "unique" article.

Two articles on the same topic will share certain words -- keywords relevant to the story -- so NO article will ever be 100% unique...

The only thing that can truly be considered unique is the author's view of the topic and how the author demonstrates his or her point of view...

Here's the way I see it.

There are really very few ideas around that are unique to us hence we can learn from everything around us and from everybody. Most of the ideas you see around are a variation of another, already posited by someone else. But the key remains to make your idea unique - a fresh perspective, fresh presentation or simply through research, bringing ideas from different places into one place.

Remember that people who go to the internet for information are looking for useful content. Now, there is nothing much useful in a cut-and-paste job that only a machine can read

You don't need to know about the topic before hand. It's hard work I agree, but hey, that's what they're paying you for Besides, if you love learning, it's not a bad job to have you know.

Most of the time, you'll be answering ads from non-writers. When they talk about unique, they really mean sufficiently different from existing articles.

As a professional writer, you'll know that unique is an absolute and describing an article as 60% unique is as nonsensical as saying something is 60% infinite. But I digress. What I suggest you do is write your article in your own words, after using whatever methods of research you are comfortable with. A subject unfamiliar to you will obviously require more extensive research from a variety of sources.

Your finished article will almost certainly be acceptable. If you wish, you could run it through a service such as copyscape prior to submission, if only to satisfy your client with an actual percentage difference figure.

      Frank,

If she writes an article from scratch, what is she going to compare it to, in order to give the client a percentage difference figure? LOL

Why? The Duplicate Content Penalty is a myth...

Someone in the WF asked me to answer this question a few days ago, so I did here:
      Duplicate Content Penalty

At the end of that thread, I also refer to the post on my blog, shown in my signature below:

        Touché.

I guess she could say 'Described as unique by Copyscape'.

I am far more comfortable reading as much as I can about a subject and just starting from scratch. I am very paranoid about getting dinged for duplicate content on the SERPs. However, because of that - it takes me a lot longer to write articles than it should. I guess it all comes down to personal preference or what you think you can get away with safely.

An article is 100% unique if you wrote it from your own point of view. You don't need to have any special or personal experience with the article title.

All you need to do is to do proper keyword research and use the keywords appropriately.

I have written articles without personal experience yet they are 100% unique because I wrote them from King Shiloh's perspective. No wonder, I earned EZA Platinum status faster than most article writers.

It rather depends upon what you mean by 'unique'. If you mean 'able to pass copyscape', then it's tricky, but do-able. You just need to ensure that no 3 word sequence is currently indexed in Google. If you mean something else, perhaps you could elaborate...

i agree. uniqueness can now be described in different ways. but for me, it's unique as long as you write an article in a different angle or point of view. you may have obtained your idea from another article but you've made a different angle out of it with your own insight then that's unique.
