Google monthly searches Drop Dramatically!

Before as I would search for some keyword using google adword tool it would show 10x times more searches then it does now, for example if you type "weight loss" it would show only 60k searches set to "exact" and if you were to search for the same keyword a month ago it would show atleast 250k searches a month set to "exact" Any explanation for this? Thanks..

Could it be something with google instant?

    Just an assumption.

Google Instant, or they realized they were calculating data wrong and have corrected for it...

Who knows... It is simply a suggestion as to what could be the cause...

Google has always indicated that they don't share everything, so I have never actually trusted their numbers to be fully accurate anyway...

Even if my suggested explanation turns out to be correct, I still won't trust their numbers... LOL

COuld be that all the Bing ads on TV are taking market share away from Google and thus the lower numbers because they have lost people to Bing.

Bing has about tripled the amount of TV hads here in the Los Angeles area and the only reason for that is that they had good results with the initial amount and by increasing the amount of air time they get, they will get even more users.

It has gone from one extreme to another. Before they slightly over-estimated it, now estimating it way under the actual figures.

Maybe they are losing market share to Bing and Yahoo )

If the searches are for the month of August then perhaps people forgot to take their laptops on vacation.

I think I noticed this too. I thought something was wrong with my keyword software at first. I'm afraid the new numbers are more accurate. Which kind of sucks, after a year of building sites and articles based on what were probably bad numbers. lol fail.

Yes, I've noticed that as well... Google is becoming more strict I think.

There can be many reasons to that. They may are changing algorithms although they deny it completely. Also bing is coming out as strong competitor and now their alliance with yahoo. Also google instant may have changed the searching behavior. So there can be many factors.

I have to agree. It is probably more accurate now than ever before. I also found them optimistic and applied my own scale factor.

Hopefully there will be more clarity in the next few months but yes, it is a pity if you built sites based on an expectation of a certain keyword traffic

Haven't seen the right answer yet, unless I missed it.

Read somewhere that with the new adwords tool, it compiles data OWNLY from Google Search, whereas the old interface tool complied data from Google Search, as well as the content network and partner sites' searches, etc.

So the new one is a better barometer if you are only worried about what people type in to the Google Search bar. Naturally, that's going to be less than the old interface for reasons I already stated. Also, some have suggested they are presenting the data in much more up to date figures than before.

Any ideas about market share or Google Instant are just guesses. But what I read came from Google, and makes perfect sense.

Its weird though, whenever I run offers through google PPC it tends to have alot more searches for certain keywords then they are shown in google adwords tool, can google be showing my ads on the keywords that are somewhat releated but not exact to what I'm bidding?
