Monetizing a forum site

What are people's recommendations for monetizing a forum/chat board? I often see adsense ads right after the 1st post in a thread, plus banner ads of course. Just looking for some starting ideas.

    That is common, or you can follow the WF format and let advertisers list products in your forum, for a price...

    The WF generates a lot of revenue for its owner...

    (1) Paid Classified section;

    (2) Paid "Private" Section with goodies

    (3) Adsense

    (4) Paid Banners where you charge $$$ per month;

    (5) Banners with your affiliate code (if applicable for the type of forum that you have).

    #3/4/5 can go many places. Typically we put a wide banner at the top and bottom of the forum, and then a block banner in the last post of each thread.
