Hi Warriors,

PayPal have changed my account so they can hold any payments I receive up to 21 days, now to say this is annoying and inconvenient is an understatement.

The terms in which they "normally" do this to people do not apply to me at all, it seems like they've done this completely of blue for no reason.

Will ringing them up do anything?

Thanks,
Matt

Are you receiving money into PayPal and moving it immediately into your bank account?

why? Is that something you should be doing OR is it one of the triggers that causes them to limit your account?

It's a trigger. It's also something a lot of people advise, so PayPal can't freeze your funds.

PayPal freezes funds as a business decision to offset risk. One of the risks PayPal always faces is the risk of previous buyers/clients demanding refunds, and they like to see enough money in your account to handle that. If you keep your account balance near zero, that makes them nervous.

Recent or long-inactive accounts that start getting a lot of activity also make them nervous.

You can offset a LOT of this with some basic measures: verified address, bank account and credit card attached, etc. That way, PayPal feels like they can rely on your credit and bank to cover any losses they may incur on your behalf.

I personally like to use PayPal as a passthru in the other direction... I move money from my bank account into PayPal, and use my PayPal debit card (they like you to have one of those, too) for all my IM-related spending.

Sort of a moot point right now, as I've actually shut down my bank account altogether - PayPal is currently my ONLY bank. Somewhat risky, but I've been with them since they were x.com and we have a good relationship.

Yeah, just taking the steps to fully verify your account and applying for a Paypal debit card will help with keeping your Paypal account in good standing. Do not try to withdraw money from your account whenever you get payments, it is exactly this type of maneuver that is going to make Paypal nervous and perhaps place some restrictions on it. Try to use your debit card whenever possible, instead of only withdrawing money.

Also, always call them up and let them know about potential large/suspicious upcoming activity in your account, to keep it from being frozen. Taking these simple steps will eliminate most, if not all of your Paypal woes.

I thought they were only doing that on ebay sales.
The reason I stopped using ebay.
Paypal would put the 21 day hold on the funds, including shipping fees, and then expect you to ship immediately.

And of course no buyer wants to wait 21 days for his funds to clear before you ship.

And my account was verified, confirmed, everything.

Not really, if you search through the threads here there have been many complaints by people about Paypal locking up or restricting their accounts, and they were definitely not selling anything on eBay.

And speak of the devil...Paypal just limited my account.

          Thanks Paypal.

I can put money in, receive payments, just not withdraw any money.

I go to the resolution page, they ask me to re-verify my bank account among other things, yet when I do that it just tells me that account is already associated with my paypal account. Same with my phone number, etc.

And...they're telling me there's a negative balance on an account I closed years ago after running into scam buyers on ebay.
I had several buyers in a row win an ebay auction, I sent them their items, and then they all turned around and claimed they didn't get their items. I gave paypal the delivery verification tracking codes that proved they had been delivered.
Then BOOM they emptied my bank account 10 months after that to repay the scam artists.
But I don't have any files or papers from years ago to prove it.
I can only imagine what amount they want to extort from this time.

This is just....everytime I turn around there is another boulder sitting in the middle of my road to success.

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear that. It sounds to me like they may have linked your old account to your current one, and are now out for blood since there's a negative balance on the old account. I have heard about this eBay issue that you mention where unscrupulous buyers can really bankrupt you; looking at this now, I'm just glad I never got into the whole ebay craze several years ago, even though I was sorely tempted to.

I sell on ebay every month.Ive been on there for 4 years or more and have ppal ,never has done anything to my account.
    I am also verified,bank account,ccard,ect..

I also have the debit card. Now i uasually never transfer funds into my bank account.Only once in a while.
I use my debit card all the time.

When i sell something on ebay, when i get paid,i go to post office and pay for the shipping with my debit card the same day i recieve payment.
That way, ppal sees me sending there item the same day i recieve it.Unless its after 5 pm.Then its the next morning.

Now i dont have large amounts going through there system either.
And as said.Call ppal up and let them know your expecting some large payments.I was told they will set you up with your own account manager wich should help.

I'm fully verified, at the time this happened I had over £100 in my paypal account and I was selling £1.74 items on ebay with quantity less than 25 so no worry of refunds.

Only problem is that my account is registered to me and I'm not 18 until next August.

Will ringing them put my account into more jeopardy if they notice I'm under 18?

Call them - I had problems with them twice and both times I managed to resolve them with a single email, but calling them is even better.
