Would you promote a cheap product?

I created my first video tutorial. It's just over 2 hours long and i priced it at $5. I was just wondering if you think this is too cheap and will turn the promoters away?

Cheap stuff converts. Good promoters know that.

Agreed. If the product is of good value.

I will create a squeeze page to capture the email address before forwarding to the sales page.

You may not attract the same kind of people who pimp the $1997 products... but if you can demonstrate that you offer VALUE for that $5, you may attract some affiliates. I'm assuming you're giving 100% commission?

You could sweeten the offer for affiliates by creating a more expensive upsell or backend product, and offering 50% commission.

I think a lot of it depends on whether you can reciprocate or not.

Or, you have created something which they cannot create themselves.

If it is just some video tutorial which they could put together in a couple of hours, and you can't return the favour (spelt favor in the US) because you don't have a list - it is highly unlikely any serious player will want to JV.

All they will be doing is handing over many of their buyers/customers to you, for little financial reward.

One of the keys to getting JVs is LEVERAGE

If you have no leverage, it is very hard to get decent JV deals done.

Cheap or not is relative. If the tutorial is crap, people won't want it even if it's free.

On the other hand, if the tutorial blew their minds away, people will be snapping up like hungry alligators!

    Bottomline, under-promise, over-deliver.

And once you know you are providing value and your product is selling, you can always create an even better back end and price it higher.

      Agreed.

The "cheap" and useful product should be able to allow you to use the "foot in the door technique" and capture a future customer. This is obviously invaluable.

I agree whole-heartily with this. When I was learning how to use photoshop I mainly did searched on youtube for what I was trying to accomplish. If the tutorial was crap, whether it be production-wise or how it was structured, I wouldn't watch it--even though it was free.

I do like cheap, but I don't like crap. I think most people feel the same way.

Hey if your video is good, price could be a good thing.

Often marketers forget that not only do you have
to build a subsriber list, you also have to build a buyer list.

If it tells you anything useful, as an affiliate, I wouldn't even consider a product that costs 5 dollars.

My minimum for anything purchased is 20 dollars commission or I'm not going to bother.

My highest earning affiliate products are products less than $19. I could promote a $7 product and make more than I would compared to a $27 product.
