Hi Everyone,

Does anybody know an excellent free video recording software that records what I am doing on my desktop and sounds?

I am making a video for my sales letter showcasing what my product can do but I can't seem to find a good program.

What do you use?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

I had this same question, except for recording webinars. The answer I got was Camtasia Studio for the paid version & CamStudio for the free version. Both are by the same company. You can download a free trial of the paid version. I'm still trying to figure out how it works though. CamStudio I think was designed for WindowsXP. May not work as well in Vista.

I recorded a webinar but for whatever reason it didn't record the sound & the file was huge. It was a long 6 hour deal, but I must've done something wrong to only get video but no audio.

Anyway, I suspect you're probably in for a learning curve.

Yeah I am currently using that and had the same problem viconline. Got the audio set-up, played it then I got an error and yeah the file was also huge.

I don't want to have to end up having a video on the sales letter without sound. Won't work very well.

For just recording perfect copies of videos streaming on your computer, I'd recommend something like Download Web Videos with Replay Media Catcher

        Rikki,

Not sure. I've only used the free version which lets you record 5 minute videos and lets you save them onto their database.

As for paid video capture, I use Screenflow. (I'm on a MAC)

I like Jing for short videos under 5 minutes long, but if you are looking to record longer screencast videos then the best free solution would be Camstudio.

I have been searching for a decent free recording software that did all the things that I wanted but just like every other area, there is not. I suggest investing in a paid software if you will create and edit a lot of videos in the long term. Think about it as an investment for your business.

Jing is good for short videos and screenshots. But it does crash occationally (at least for me..) which is very disturbing if you've just recorded 5 minutes of video..
Camtasia is very good and also gives you editing and drawing possibilities

We use Camstudio and it works perfectly on Windows 7 64 bit. Great for integrating with Powerpoint slides
