How to address: I reported a spammer and they reported me just 'cause

I reported a Warrior (clicked the infraction icon) who was clearly posting short, unrelated responses to build out posts for more links to their sig. Today I get an infraction submitted from them regarding a post that was a "thanked" response to someone who needed help to which I advised. Clearly, a "you get me I get you" type of deal.

How do I go about addressing this? Not a big deal, just curious.

Update: Using the "infraction" option sends them a PM from you, the "report post" is anonymous, so I guess that's the better option.

Infractions don't really matter here.. I do report them to WarriorForumSupport after someone goes a little crazy.. If you look through my infractions, you'll see some people joined just to infract me.. Where do these people get so much time to just send infractions.

Needless to say, it's been reversed anyway

Thanks, the only reason I really cared was because the PM I received talked about the potential of restricting my Warrior account... if that's not the case, I could care less

      Scott -

Just use the "report post" function to report a violation - instead of issuing an infraction - by clicking on the ! on the left.

That way it's taken care of by mods if there is a problem - and you aren't identifying yourself.

Usually does the trick - Your welcome, it's a standard vBulletin message you are referring to. Infractions expire after an hour, no worries.. I don't even think you can get banned for infractions like at other forums.. (I think some of the people going infraction crazy on me think so though..)

People who issue multiple infractions to people they don't like usually end up having their own special designation - banned.

How did the person know that YOU reported them?

And if it gets crazy with infractions, report it to the Help Desk. I recently had someone give me 9 infractions for spamming - some on the ads that I paid for...lol. They were upset because I reversed Caleb's nonsense infractions. They ended up banned.

I assume they received a similar PM to what I did. The PM with the infraction info is addressed from the issuer.

The PM from them goes like this:

          Dear Scott Million,

You have received an infraction at WarriorForum - Internet Marketing Forums.

          Reason: Breaking WSO Rules
          -------
This infraction is worth 1 point(s) and may result in restricted access until it expires. Serious infractions will never expire.

Then it links to your post...

He issued an infraction, to warn the user. He didn't "report' the post.

You issued an infraction, to warn the user. You didn't flag the post to mods.

          Tina,
just curious - can anyone reverse an infraction? That happened with me and I was really grateful to Thomas for doing it.

          Scott:
I originally thought infractions could be used to help new folks get use to the forum and up on the rules. I quickly found out most don't see it that way - maybe the name is kinda harsh for mentoring. Of course for just outright bad behavior its appropriate, but as you've found out, I just use the report button now. As to trying to be constructive with folks - I'll either PM them directly or post in the thread. However, I've found that most of those threads get deleted quickly and the original poster never heard from again.

          best,

            Jack,

              Here's the problem with infractions:

Theoretically they can be used to warn a new member about something in the rules he needs to read or whatever.

What really happens is someone receives a message they have "done something wrong" - and the natural emotional reaction is negative. They feel attacked and singled out and often react in anger.

              The report is confidential right?
Yes, but use caution. The report can't be seen by the person who violated a rule - but the mods can see it. Only report posts that violate the rules or you are fairly certain pose a problem.

Using "report post" because you don't like a person or an answer might label you as a problem if you continually report threads that aren't breaking rules.

              Common sense, isn't it?

So, just to make sure. The report is confidential right?
For an instant I got confused because the OP didn't say he gave an infraction but that he reported a user. I assumed he used the same report button you're talking about.

Yes, The report is confidential . The mods know who reported it, but I'm pretty sure they don't go around telling the ops. He actually issued an infraction, using the red/yellow button, which is different.
