Would you build a Video Membership Site like this?

Hi All,

I'm still learning the ropes here(read 'he's a dodo') so any help would be much appreciated,

I want to build a Membership Site that will deliver video lessons, most likely drip fed.

Now I've seen a couple of wordpress plug-ins - but Im concerned that the site would run slowly with these.

Is there an all-in-one solution which would suit me ?

I had a look at Nanacast & it looks promising,

I dont have any autoresponders set up yet & I was hoping to get what I need from Nanacast & sign up for an autoresponder elsewhere too.

Any suggestions as to how good a plan this is would be really helpful & if you've had a similar dilemma & taken a different path,

Many thanks Guys & and Gals!

Dan

I would support wordpress plus a combination of plugins on this one. You can never go wrong with wordpress, unless it's a community site.

There is an all-in-one solution: Traindom (Start Your Information Marketing Business in Minutes - Traindom). Video streaming and everything built-in. No tech skills required.

Nanacast is something I've been eyeballing too. I currently have Wishlist and it works well enough, but a more integrated solution would be nice, like Nanacast.

      I had a look at the Traindom site & it looked perfect - until I looked at the FAQ's - the two things I wouldn't want were;

      1. the fact that you must use a mydomain.traindom.com type URL - it may not look so professional to potential members and

      2. the pricing structure, its a bit like 'big brother' is constantly looking over your shoulder to see how well the site is going. I can understand the cost issues for video storage but the 'Up to $1000 monthly revenue' seems too inquisitive for my liking.

all said though its got the bones of a nice option...

Does your site use videos a lot - how secure do you feel the site is with your current set-up ?

& thanks all for the help folks!

I would strongly suggest you to use amember for the backend and a custom programmed front-end solution - as this is the only way you get exactly what you're after.

If you have a clear vision in mind and know how you want your site to look like / function then finding a programmer to do it for you is a piece of cake. There's plenty of good PHP programmers out there and you'll most likely to get a proper, working solution for less than a few hundred bucks.

Thanks Bryan, Im sure you're right about getting a programmer - but Im not sure I have the skills to know how the system should function - as its my first membership site, but its something to consider for the next one (heres hoping there will be one!) !!

    Makes perfect sense

But in case you do go ahead and do the whole thing yourself then remember one thing - simplicity is the key! Make the information easily accessible and your customers will be happy / your support team will be relaxed.

    Dan,

If you plan on using WordPress for your membership platform, you might want to take a look at MemberWing X to handle your front end:

Membership Site Plugin – Wordpress Membership Plugin – MemberWing

It will handle everything you need, drip content, sales processing, affiliate management, etc. and can do different membership levels and a 'pay-per-view' option.

The only other thing I would suggest is to consider hosting your videos on Amazon to alleviate the possible bandwidth problem. The cost is minimal for what you get.

    Thanks,

    John

Thanks John I read some positive comparative reviews of MemberWing,

The security question keeps poping up - does MemberWing would offer good security or would I need something else to keep the videos safe assuming I used amazon too?

      all the best

Step 1:Host your videos on amazonS3 (Contact me to send you a free video on how to use it).

Step2: Build a secured membership site using a functional script...either paid (amember, nancast...etc), or free (Butterfly Marketing Script).

Don't use wordpress, I never use WP to create a secure membership site.

Thanks for your insight - Im interested to know why you don't recommend WP - I was looking at wishlist member a WP plugin & thought that it ticks all my boxes,

why wouldnt you use WP as a basis for your membership site ?

This sounds very tricky - if you are going to host the videos yourself and the site gets lots of traffic, your hosting bills would be quite juicy. I am not sure what kind of video tutorials you have in mind, but in order to have people actually pay for membership, the tutorials have to be something that they won't be able to find freely online....and that means expert/advanced tutorials. And when you ask a great say Photoshop expert to record a tutorial for you, expect to pay at least $200 or more and you are going to need a lot of these tutorials in order to build up good membership base.

Protecting your videos from hotlinking is also tricky and can’t be done with simple htaccess code and on the other hand, if you decide to host the tutorials on YouTube, you have no control over them and they can be easily deleted by YouTube for whatever reason and easily linked to as well even if they are unlisted.

Anyway, I am just bringing some points to your attention – if you decide to go ahead and launch your site, good luck and I hope it grows big!

      I see your point....

The plan was to put a couple of feeder videos on youtube & keep the good stuff under lock & key!

how would you suggest I keep the vids secure ?

Robert Puddy's Login Frequency Marketing will do what you're looking for out of the box. It has built in Amazon S3 integration for streaming your videos.
