Am I in the wrong place? Not an IM Warrior.

I am not an internet marketer.

I am a professional addressing a local market, looking for insight into local SEO issues and opportunities for my own site. I sell nothing online. My site exists to make my phone ring.

I am branding myself in a way that is very much against the grain of my competitors, but hopefully on the front end of a trend. I don't know how else to break in to this fairly locked-up local market without a gargantuan budget and besides, I have a passion for this against-the-grain approach.

My impression so far from this and related venues is that the primary and almost exclusive focus is to serve businesses which provide value and accept payment exclusively online. In fact a significant slice of it seems to be people selling one another info on how to sell one another info.

No offense. The forum wouldn't be thriving if it didn't yield real value. If IMers can rise financially by lifting one another's bootstraps, there is nothing wrong with that.

But since I am not an Internet Marketer in the sense that my whole business and focus is online, is there another venue I should be trying instead?

Will I be unwelcome or in the way (or squandering valuable time) if I start spending time here, trying to tease out ideas for online marketing of my very not-online business? (and of course meanwhile trying to contribute feedback in any useful way I can, just to be a good citizen.)

Finally, if there is a region of this forum custom-tailored for people like me, one which I obviously have not found yet, please point me to it and accept my thanks.

There are plenty of people here who have clients that have offline businesses, and a large percentage of that work is for SEO for the offline business website. While there isn't a particular place for just discussing offline business issues, you can use the search feature and you will certainly find alot of info. Start with searching for "offline" in the title of threads. Good luck

The main forum is fine for almost anything related to marketing, however, there is also a section that caters to offline marketing here...

OP does not belong in the offline section, IMO. She is looking for a way to use SEO for her website to benefit her business and that falls into the realm of online marketing.

    Some tips:
-Find ways to get links from other websites using anchor text that applies to your business (and the keywords you want your website to show up for on Google)
-Learn about on-site SEO, use meta data, alt tags for images, relevant anchor text.
-Write articles on free article sites to demonstrate your authority in the area, use them to link back to your site
-Look at Google Webmaster tools and use the tools there

Just some stuff to help you get started, good luck.

      Sam,
Yup, what the OP is looking to do is in the real of online marketing.

But, the offline section is primarily a group of online marketers discussing how to use online marketing for real world businesses.

While there is a lot of discussion there on how to get clients, there is also a lot of discussion on how to get those real world clients leads through online means.

That is why the OP should check that area out. It is one of the problems with the name that got associated with Offline Marketing Consulting (providing online marketing services to offline businesses) vs good old Offline Marketing (direct mail, telemarketing, etc.)

    Wow.

I would like to thank each of you for responding.

I would also like to increase your "thank count" gizmo here in this forum but I don't know what to click.

It seems as though every single suggestion is worth following up on, and I will.

I'm very impressed with this site and this group of people. Lots of energy, no fluff and no rancor. Wonderful.

        Um, yeah.
Now all I need is a referral to a good opthamologist.

You, my friend, are going to fit in just fine around here. Welcome...

You'll find a pretty eclectic mix of people here in the main forum, from hard core programmers to writers and information sellers to folks running their own brick and mortar business. As you've seen, we also have some other folks rambling around who may be less than they pretend to be.

            Nope...

That snook and the redfish in my profile pick were both caught on one the most extraordinary days on the water I've had in the almost-50 years I've been chasing the critters.

We only caught a couple of dozen fish that day, but the overall size and quality were amazing.

We are new to the IM forum ourselves, but we can assure you that you have come to the right place. Many other IM's along with our mentor and friend, Liz Tomey, uses Warrior Forum and highly recommends this forum for anyone who wants to find out new information on anything marketing related. This in our opinion is the best forum you can be on. The community here is great and is more than willing to help on even your hardest questions.

    Best of Luck to you!

Like you, I'm started with Internet Marketing to apply it ot my own offline business. And I still do. The things that you learn here is unheard of in the offline world and I've had some great fun with SEO specialist trying to sell me their services for my offline company. They can BS me, I probably know more about IM than most of them (from the free advice you get here), especially when they tell how important it is for Google to have the right keyword in my keywords meta tags.

It is great resource and I can recommend the War Room as well. Lots and lots of useful stuff.
