Hello ...

I am using OpenOffice to create my eBook. However, I have so much content that I will need to divide it into a few different sections. So what I'd like to do is create tabs for each section. For example, if my eBook were on recipes, I would like to create different tabs entitled "Appetizers" / "Entrees" / "Desserts" ... so when you open the eBook, you have an option to click on a respective tab to find what you're looking for.

Unfortunately I do not see an option to insert tabs in OpenOffice. Does anyone have any idea how I could go about doing this? Any other software program I could use?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated - thank you!

    Donnie,

You can do this in a couple of steps. First you need to use "Apply Styles" (usually Header 2) in Writer. This will bookmark for you the "Appetizers" / "Entrees" / "Desserts" tabs. Just highlight the text such as Appetizers then click Apply Styles -> Header 2. it takes a few minutes to run though your document and highlight the text in the different sections. (Of course - if you don't like the effect the Header 2 is (such as bold, font, auto-center, etc. you can change it!)

The 2nd step has been covered already in this Warrior thread ->

But I would use "Bookmarks and page" instead of "Thumbnail and page"

    Hope this helps,
    Sparky

Thanks very much for your response.

I probably did a bad job of explaining what it is I need. "Tabs" was probably the wrong word. What I am looking for are the "sheet tabs" you see at the bottom of a spreadsheet document.

Is it possible to add sheet tabs to a regular text document? It would be a major help to what I'm doing; unfortunately I can't seem to figure it out.

      Thanks in advance.

In ebooks and books you usually use a table of contents, and sections.

if you want to have a format with a menu on a side (is that what you want?), you need to go html. The older ebooks where like it, html pages made into an exe file.
