Obama + Twitter Thought...

I was just thinking what if someone registered all the
possible Obama name combinations on Twitter before
he could?

Not that it would have changed the election results,
but it would have blocked one promotion channel.

And the twitter account with the highest number
of followers wouldn't exist.

You think people might start doing that for
future candidates?

Perhaps, even famous people are likely to be snapped up so others can have their "15 seconds of fame" before they are unfriended.

I noticed sergey brin and larry page were registered by some random.

Someone had an Obama page on MySpace -- and eventually the Obama campaign took it over so they could control the message. I think if someone had done the same thing on Twitter (and had a large number of followers), the campaign would have taken over the Twitter accounts, too.

    hmmm.

Did they take it by force? Can they?

    Tim,

I've seen some really clever uses of famous
names on twitter. I think most times people
know that it's not the real person.

      Speaking of which...

How do we know you're the REAL Jigar Banker? Huh?

You could just be some opportunist trying to cash in on his good name.

Sorry I'm a little slow in getting back to this thread. Here's a link to a story about the Obama campaign taking the MySpace page:

Obama Campaign Asks: Is It MySpace or Yours? - washingtonpost.com

Initially they worked with the guy who was running the page. But eventually the Obama camp realized they needed to control the message. MySpace agreed to give them the URL -- while the person who created the page got to keep the efforts of his work (e.g., the content and such).

It's like anything you do online. For example, put up a site with a domain name that includes the word "eBay," and you'll have eBay lawyers knocking on your virtual door. When you use a third-party site like a social site, it's probably even easier for someone to take over a URL, page or whatever, as the site owner may just hand it over to avoid a dispute, legal battles, etc.

      Cheers,
      Becky

Well if you put "good name" with "Jigar Banker"
then maybe you're not the REAL Paul Myers.

I'm as evil as they come. Except on Tuesdays.

Okay. You're the real Jigar Banker. No-one else would respond that way.

Well I'm still not conceding the fact that you are in fact, Paul Myers.

The REAL Paul Myers is too old to be up this late. :-)

You know better, Junior. I am, and always have been, a nocturnal mammal. Not to mention that I can still drink you under the table.

Nope. I'll see if I can dig it up. Thanks.

Dude, it's better than downloadable audio. He's got a PDF transcript.

      Much appreciated.

I'm sure they could just take the account by law if they needed to. But good point
