Online upprisal websites, a waste of time?

Hi,

I just checked a couple of my very old and rusty websites with:

How Much Is Your Site Worth? | URLAppraisal.net

they gave me uppraisals between 8K and 10K...

they are old domains (6 years), .com, most with original content, etc... but no revenue whatsoever. Some for lack of traffic, some because I never tunned in the revenue lines.

now, it doesn´t look accurate to me... I would LOVE it if it were true, but I don´t even think I can get $500 for them... (or $50 for what matters, as they have no revenue).

I´m getting ready to do some closet cleaning, so any feedback is highly appreciated.

Sandra

Automated appraisal tools do the best they can, but in the end the value of a domain is kind of an abstract thing... it's whatever someone is willing to pay for it. To me, a given domain might be worth nothing. But to someone else, it might be worth hundreds or thousands. Domain value (and beauty) is in the eye of the beholder.

The appraisal site you link to is extremely generous with its valuations. I have a domain that I haven't finished developing... no Pagerank, no backlinks, nothing... and that site gave it a value of about $4,000. Estibot, on the other hand, gave it a value of $0. I'd say that Estibot was far more accurate. :-)

I use Estibot as a rough guide for value, but no automatic appraisal should ever be used without backing it up with your own research.

      Estibot gives me $0 for:

      golferarea.com

      $50 for

      affiliatefarm.com
      surveyschest.com

      and $150 for

      brazilianzone.com

I am starting to do some research on this as it is time to get rid of them and move on.

Some domains are easy to sell out of the IM arena, where they probably have better value.

      But probably not these...

      thanks for the feedback!!

The biggest problem with Estibot is that I believe it uses "related sales" as a factor for valuating domains. I think the reason it gave a $150 value to BrazilianZone.com is because some other sites with "zone" in their names recently sold for some decent money. For example, FreelanceZone.com sold for $450 and AirZone.net sold for $1,000. But then it includes Ozone.biz (sold for $2,438)... that's really a stretch!

Just goes to show you how crazy domain sales can be... I would not have paid $1,000 for AirZone.net, but someone else obviously did.

          Ohh... I see...

well, from all of them BrazilianZone did bring in some revenue in its time, it was a local portal for the Brazilian community in USA, had a paid business directory, over 1K indexed pages... etc.

and did some promotion, especially in the **** fever time. As you can eat **** bowl in most Brazilian bakeries, it is good.

thanks fort taking the time to look at this.

My pleasure to help out whenever I can.

I was just assuming the value was based on the related sales because I didn't see any other metrics that would contribute, but it's very possible that your backlinks and such helped a lot.

Keep in mind that Estibot is really looking more at the value of the domain rather than the site as a whole. Since yours is an established site, it may be worth much more. Put it up on Flippa and find out!

Tools are tools while real humans are real humans. These appraisal tools or sites are not in the shoes of the real humans who are expected to buy or pay for the websites that you want to sell.

    Just use your head.

      Thanks... I guess...

      You lost me somewhere...

If I believed that those numbers are accurate, would I be here asking questions?
