Google Instant, But What About This?

Hello,

After making a search on Google instant I noticed a blue arrow at the left of the top result. What was even "better" was that when I clicked enter on my keyboard I was sent to that page.

By using the down arrow on my keyboard I could move the arrow down and typing enter would send me to the page.

Personally, as a marketer I can say that I have problems to understand how one can achieve stability with the new Google instant. As you type, you are shown suggestions and Google does not even wait for you to stop typing to give you results.

With this blue arrow, I see that being at the top of the search engine results page could be beneficial. However, I now also think that because I do not have any contract with Google, as to how they are going to show results on their page, they can really do what they want, when they want. I don't know if ranking in Google is something one should put all his/her efforts on.

That's why the money's in the list. This maxim will continue to hold water more and more in the coming months/years.

What you say is so right. I realize that making articles only to be ranked by Google can be a mistake when you have no control over their algorithm.

It can influence, certainly, but I do not believe that it is the "be-all-end-all" of the SERP's when it comes to SEO for goog. I don't know if I represent the "average" user, but I still finish what I originally was typing, and those results are the same as the non-instant. I do not know if there is a way to objectively tell if this represents how the "average" searcher performs.

As far as the blue arrow... I definitely see this affecting "click through's" for any given search once people catch on to just hitting enter instead of scroll-click... Instead of a "top-3 to 5" strategy, it becomes imperative to aim for number 1. Tough indeed! Long tail strategy might become more important, but KW-dense SEO'd content should still do well (we all hope!) . I can't think of any real way this would be a negative for the searcher (other than force-feeding them the first result). This is the equivalent of "I'm feeling lucky" though... hopefully not too rough on those of us in the 3-5 results for our KW/Phrases....

Yes, it becomes very important to be at the top. This is the hard part.
