So I sold my first startup site for an amazing amount of $59 (lol) on Flippa last week. Although it wasn't much, I expected payment. I sent the winner a message via pm with details. Didn't hear from him for 2 days. I decided to send him an actual paypal invoice, hoping he'd pay.

I went back and looked at his feedback. The first site he won, the seller sent negative feedback, telling other sellers not to sell to this guy. The next two sellers gave him positive feedback. But I did notice that he hadn't paid for his flippa fees.

Once the full 3 days of waiting ended, I filed a dispute. Apparently I had to wait another 3 days to give the winner a chance to reply. He never did. So Flippa relisted my auction and waived fees.

So what should I do about the feedback? Should I send a negative feedback to him and risk getting one in return? or should I leave it be and move on?

Not sure what flippa policy is but i would send him negative feedback and mention flippa gave you credit and resubmitted. On the other hand don't listen to me because if it is a tic for tack review policy then you have to play along to keep your rep in place. Especially, since you are new.

On flippa and ebay, etc. I leave honest feedback regardless of potential repercussions. That way, the system weeds out the dirtbags (and there are plenty of them).

Too bad this happened to you, but I would leave it.
    Time to move on.

Leave honest feedback, which in this case means leaving negative.

If the bidder has backed out of not only paying for your auction, but others too, let Flippa know about it. They will probably ban the member for repeat non payment.

(oh, and please do not sell any future sites for $58....the market over there is already in the tank, no need to add to it. I've seen many very good established sites sell at incredibly low prices, well below the normal 12x monthly revenue figure most use as a base for valuation).

Give him negative feedback if he deserves it. You might be saving someone else the headaches of dealing with him in the future. If he retaliates by leaving you negative feedback, you can contact Flippa and have them remove it. You already won a dispute so I am sure they would do it.

I went back to Flippa just now and reviewed the person's trust. Apparently, Flippa knocked down this person's trust to a -9. His account is currently suspended. So I felt safe enough to leave him a negative, but honest feedback.

Until Flippa protects people from retaliation feedback, I'd leave it alone. In the long run, it's not worth having bad feedback from some dirt bag. Flippa should remove the feedback function from non-paying bidders .. actually just ban them immediately, but that's not always the case.

    Edit: Since he's suspended .... you're safe.

I wouldn't feel bad about giving him negative feedback. I have a listing on Flippa right now and would do the same if it happened to me.

I don't think this is one of those cases where you just let it slip because it can effect other people too. Warn potential future sellers and maybe save them the hassle he caused you.

    Hi,

I've recently heard from a few people experiencing a similar thing, only to see their site being listed on Digital Point before the transaction had completed. (not sure how they're getting around the site verification if DP has any?)

It seems like the wrong way round as values on DP tend to be less than Flippa but I guess the bidder is waiting on someone to buy, pay them by paypal and they'll the pay the original owner minus their cut. The problem is if it doesn't sell on DP, they'll simply abandon the Flippa sale.

@Midnightmarketing - my site picked up your url as being listed on Digital Point recently -
    are you aware of this?

I seriously doubt that DP has any verification or any standards at all. Doing business on DP is asking for your "stuff" to be put on every BH site on the Net.

DP is a bit of a dark horse.

About four months ago I started tracking duplicate listings (listings on Flippa and DP at the same time) as the database would throw a error on certain pages if the same url existed in two different records at the same time.

The minute I checked each one, the Flippa auction would always be live, sometimes until the end of the auction, but the DP auction would be removed the minute I got to it which means they must be scanning Flippa's RSS feeds and comparing their new listings to their own looking for duplicates.

You can send a negative feedback and then request flippa to remove any negative feedback he has left as it is unjustified. This is what I do.

Flippa will say no they wont do that. I just email them back saying, well its unfair and obvious that he has not paid why can he leave negative feedback.

I then say how amazing Flippa is etc but I am now dissapointed and will not be using the service again until it is remove.

    BANG

You get an email back within a few hours saying feedback removed

    Regards
    Owen

The thing is ... the whole feedback system is flawed in the same way Elance's system is ... If someone outright scams you and you leave feedback, they can retaliate and leave feedback that is pure fiction.

That means that many won't bother to leave feedback that they were scammed. I won't. I'm not going to the hassle of trying to remove undeserved negative feedback. Elance's policy was that feedback is never removed unless the person who left it says so. End of story. I'm not going to beg Flippa to remove undeserved negative feedback from some scammer.

It's their feedback system. They should fix it so scammers are outed and punished and the victims are not.

That is a tricky question. I think Owen is right. Leave a negative feedback and tell Flippa to remove a negative feedback from his side.

Sorry to hear about your experience on Flippa. I'm not sure what type of site you were selling, but I'd concentrate on selling higher value sites in the future, as it not only eliminates having to deal with the lowlife scum on there who prey on the low-hanging fruit, but it increases your profitability exponentially as you're really making next to nothing on a $59 sale when taking into account the Flippa listing and success fees, in addition to any additional add-ons that you might have purchased!
