Problem Affiliates :(

Hey everyone,

One thing that I've never liked about 3rd party affiliate programs like Clickbank was the fact that anyone can sign up and start promoting your product/service...ANYONE.

Including spammers who may represent your company in a bad way because of his / her 'advertising' methods.

Has anyone ever had a problem like this?

You've got to be diligent about reporting this activity to CB.

    They do take it seriously.

I have a report abuse page on my CB product sites now.

    Great idea, Chris.

The main reason I ask is because I once almost turned the services of a great company down based on how they were presented to me by one of their bad affiliates. Glad I decided to look beyond that.

Still, most prospects aren't that forgiving I'd imagine. Having a 'bad apple' promoting your business can cost you.

I recently had an affiliate of mine make 4-5 sales every day for a week or so. Yet my traffic stats hadn't changed, and I was getting no more than the usual number of optins to the sales page drop in box.

I contacted the affiliate to ask how he was promoting, no response. Something was up. Then I got a PayPal 'Unauthorized Transaction' notice, then another, then another.

So I just refunded every sale that came from that affiliate and reported him to PayDotCom. Must have been using a bunch of stolen CC data.

So yea open affiliate programs do leave you open to unsavory characters, but closed ones can put off some possible great affiliates.

PayDotCom do have an option to have a closed door affiliate program.

I know it costs a little more in time and money, but setting up your own affiliate program in which you pre-screen everyone who signs up is probably the best thing to do.

      Gary,

this is slightly off-topic, but have you had a good experience with PayDotCom?

I heard from a friend today that they'd heard some bad stories about PDC, but I haven't had any problems with them so far. Just curious.

      Cheers,

      Michael
