Put articles to work: here's how

Write an information rich article. Find a keyword phrase that has between 10,000 to 20,000 searches a month. Use the keyword phrase as the first word in the title of the article, once in the first paragraph, and twice more, but no more than that.

Post it on your blog or add it to your website using the keyword phrase as the name of the file when you upload. The keyword phrase should also be the meta title of the page and as the first header.

Socially bookmark the new page.

Change the keyword phrase to another one that is similar. You don't want to compete with yourself by submitting articles using the same keyword phrase. For example I use "tips to lose weight fast" as the keyword phrase for my website. I would use "tips for fast weight loss" as the keyword phrase for the article.

Make sure that the name of the author of the article matches that of the author on your website. In the author bio box use the keyword phrase of your index page -- in this case "tips to lose weight fast" -- as the link in the bio box. Ezinearticles will delete the article if it has another name on it.

Submit the article to as many article directories as you can. I use a paid article submission service and a software article distribution program. I submit to ezinearticles manually.

Set up a squidoo page, blogger blog, wetpaint, weebly, xanga and whatever other pages using the same article. Backlink to your website from each using the keyword phrase of the index page.

Write another article. This time in the author's bio box backlink to the inner page you set up previously using the appropriate keywords for that page. That way the new page gets lots of links under its keyword phrase. When the people reading the article click on the link they're taken to another article, not the same one they've just read.

Rinse and repeat with new articles.

Please feel free to add your own advice to how you get the most out of your articles.

I remember when squidoo got slapped by google a few years back, and so IMs have since left it, but it has made a really good comeback and with a couple dozen of nicely made, and weekly updated lenses comebined with ezine and can be a real goldmine of traffic

    Wow your method is comprehensive.

I simply write and submit articles and maybe do some backlinking and get great results ... for example some great page one listings.

How long does it take to do all that and what kind of results are you seeing?

Do you do this for backlinks or for the clicks or both?

  • Thank you for these important tips. Indeed, using a high ranking keyword phrase at the beginning of your article is an extremely effective method for SEO. I also appreciate the list of social bookmark sites which I find extremely useful.
Here is my 5 cents: it's always a good idea to add graphics to your article, use a readable font, double line spacing and organize the text in narrow columns.

    Here's how I'd stretch a quality article:

    1. Syndicate it across all directories
    2. Convert it into a Youtube video
    3. Convert it into a podcast
    4. Rewrite it and use for blog comments/yahoo answers
    5. Rewrite it and post to blog
    6. Rewrite it and try to guest blog it

You could get a lot of traffic from ONE article. Most people try to churn thousands of articles for the same traffic. I'd rather have one GREAT article syndicated like this, rather than thousands of pieces of crap clogging up the web and making my website and name look bad.

I have found social bookmarking extremely useful to get lot of viewers for my articles. Any time I submit an article to article directories I submit the link to 50 bookmarking services at least if not more. I do also submit my authors RSS feed to feed directories.

Thanks for tips. It's always nice to pick up a little nugget that is just a little different than what we find ourselves doing. There are so many options when it comes to article marketing that we sometimes forget some important items when we're immersed in the process.

As Nick said I think articles can span a much greater backlink network than just article directories. The more diverse and broad the backlink web the better.

    Thanks again.

You can also compile them into an ebook with some minor editing to make them "flow" like a proper ebook and not a bunch of related articles.

Now, how do you think you can use an ebook to broaden your backlink web? Hmmm... lots of possibilities, but start by taking a look at scribd.com and issuu.com.

Great idea Zabrina. You can also do the opposite. Take an ebook and pull it apart into articles.

        Dee,

        Let me get this straight.

        1. Post an article about a popular keyword phrase (i.e. cell phone) on an interior page of my site.
        2. Socially bookmark this article.
        3. Change the keyword phrase (from cell phone to mobile phone) and post the exact same article to as many article directories as possible.
        4. Set up a squidoo page, blogger blog, wetpaint, weebly, xanga ... with the exact same article only change the keyword phrase to that of the index page (i.e. cellular phones) of my site.
        5. Write a brand new new article with the original interior page keyword phrase (cell phone), submit it to as many article directories as possible and link it back to original article.

        Is this correct?

Also, is there any problems with submitting an article to article directories that is identical (other than keyword phrase) to the article on my site?

In terms of link bait (not traffic), will I get better results by submitting articles in the same niche or can I use totally different articles. Say I have a cell phone website, but I submit articles to article directories about dog food? I see authors doing this. I think they are trying to hide their niches from competitors.

          .
No, there is no problem submitting an article on your site to article directories. All they care about is that you are the original author. You should, absolutely, put the article on your own site.

I like looking for alternatives to traditional article directories as well. I saw someone mention Squidoo and I think that Blogger and GoogleKnol are worth exploring as well. You'd have to start a mini-blog on Google but it would be worth using to drive links back to your site. Both are Google sites/products and I think the odds of your links being picked up *quickly* would be higher.

      Good info here.

I like to turn each article into a video and then a podcast. Then submit to all the bookmarking sites as well. More back links for me!

      Thanks

turn your articles into a Power point presentation, and make a video.

    - submit the video to tubemogul
    - submit the audio as a podcast
    - submit the power point at share sites.
    - turn your article into a pdf file and give it away.

don't forget to add your url on the presentation and in the pdf.
