What keeps you from succeeding?

I am not going to sit here and say that I make 10K a month or that I'm some "guru" or internet millionaire. But.. I don't have a boss to report to and I do work from home and travel whenever I want.

The process for me was not easy though! I wish I would've known when I first got started what I know now. Things could have went a lot smoother that's for sure!

My question for you is, What do you feel keeps you from succeeding? Is it mind set? Technical issues? Lack of a plan? Too much information? Not enough? Not the information you need? What is it you're struggling with the most??

Gerardo

Ps. I guess its more than just a question!

    Hi LoveMyth (great name)

I am in the same postion as you ... doing very well but not going to claim some sort of Guru status

Bet I know the answer to this one ... for a lot of people anyway as this single issue held me back until I cracked it.

Answer to your question I think for a lot of noobs is lack of targetted traffic.

Sort the traffic problem out and you stand a lot more chance of making some dough!

For me there's several factors that are keeping me from succeeding.
I've until now been an affiliate, have gotten to first positions for the main keyword of each of my sites, but that's been it until now.

What's stopping me is lack of focus on the one hand, often doing other things meanwhile and not really getting to do some things about my online business (I'm somewhere between highschool and university, transfered to the American system, I think) and therefore don't rely on this. It's more like a nice thing to have some more money, but not really something that I need to take care of really badly. Guess that's another thing that I'm missing: A big motivational vision or something like that.

On the other hand I also am not sure about how the tax office is going to cope with that business, just started in may and didn't have to do my yearly report yet. Also if I do earn more money than a certain amount per year, then completely different rules will apply anyway. (German tax laws, I think they are pretty complex when taking a detailed look)
Adding to that is that I'm volunteering abroad for a year atm which adds to the confusion, the people at the tax office didn't really seem to know the rules for that either...

Oh and another thing is that I am often unsure if what I do is the right thing to do and spend a lot of time undecidedly and thinking about whether I should do things one way or another or some way that I don't know about yet, but that probably would be more benefitial.

Didn't expect that much, did you?

For me, it has been college. College is my #1 priority right now. I have been doing extremely well and want it to stay that way.

Until now, I have only had 1 website that I made to make money with. That was when I was only 16. This time around, I am much more mature, have read tons of internet marketing material, and have plenty of software to help me.

In the past the things that have slowed me down or hampered my efforts have definitely been trying to do too many things myself and not having nearly enough time to do them in.

In any process there are always steps that we can remove or things that we can streamline to speed it up and make it a lot more efficient, marketing is no different. So in this situation what you would need to think about is "can I get someone else to do some of this for me, leaving me to focus on the important parts". This is what I did and it created a lot more success for me.

The biggest problem I have now, is doing my own marketing. I market local and national clients (online and offline). Whilst it's something I'm very enthusiastic about, I do still find it very difficult to market them all day and then work on my own marketing afterwards.

I've not really got a solution for it that works yet, but I'm considering the idea of treating myself as a 'client' and thus working on a marketing project with a slightly different angle.

Definitely my own health problems. Mild depression and anxiety issues can make getting out of bed hard, let alone sitting down to work. I've busted through most of those hard days, but a few just knocked me on my back.

I'm determined not to let myself hold myself back any longer, though.

      Hi Zabrina,

You just don't let those bad feelings overtake you I deal with depression among many other things and I want to encourage you.... you can do it!

Nothing will stand in your way just plug away the best you can and things will start to happen-I am speaking to myself here too
It is easy to get upset and depressed when things don't happen right away the key is perseverance No one or thing can stand in your way when you bulldoze through them instead of looking for a way around them !

Think of a tunnel for a train. Going right through a mountain, See what I mean Nothing can stand in your way but even that tunnel took work and time to get there.
      cheers

I am also prone to depression.. I have learned to control it though.. What I do when I feel like its coming is I pop in some Dane Cook videos.. Or I'll just youtube a few clips! HAHA

For me, it becomes hard to feel down when I'm cracking up!

I totally agree! I know because I've been there! Amen, "determination IS key"..

I know how that goes! What I do is conjure up images of where I want to be, then I decide whether what I'm doing now is going to bring me closer to that it, or push me farther from it.. That puts me into action!

          Interesting thread.

Although I've been a student of self improvement and motivational material, it didn't always cut it for me. I would think positive, write goals, record myself and fall asleep listening to my recordings, subliminal messages, etc. yet I struggled for years!
That is a 'biggee' , I've got the T-shirt etc.

Are these types of programs encouraging hope, a widely used marketing tactic?

          Jim

ps Nice to note you got through the self improvement cycle intact.

There are a few factors that will help you with internet marketing. The first one is mind set. Always look for the positive side. If something does go wrong - learn from it and get yourself back on track.

Always set yourself goals that are realistic and achievable. Be persistent and do not lose focus on what you want to achieve. Write your goals down and then break them down into monthly, weekly and daily goals. When you write them down put them somewhere that you can see them - it may be your refrigerator door, your bathroom mirror or near your computer screen.

This will positively reinforce those goals every time you see them. You also need to learn the skills that enable you to do these things - so whether you try to do it by yourself or you invest in having a coach/mentor - it is up to you. Having a coach is the fastest way but if you are on a budget you will find heaps of free material available on the net that can help you.

Wow! Great feedback and very interesting how many different scenarios there are. Although I've been a student of self improvement and motivational material, it didn't always cut it for me. I would think positive, write goals, record myself and fall asleep listening to my recordings, subliminal messages, etc. yet I struggled for years!

I feel that what finally did it was the fact that I became uncomfortable and angry with my situation. I was lacking focus on productive work. Spent too much time getting ready for success instead of meeting it half way!

There is absolutely no substitute for hard work and patience! We need not only desire and faith, but work and dedication.
