Should I do this in MS Word before converting to PDF or insert the header in Adobe Pro 9, any tips? I'm not sure what's best. Thanks!

Hi, That's how I do it. Except I use OpenOffice Writer, but it works just like Word. -Flex |

You should do most all of your editing and final tweaking within Word or your html editor, depending on what you are using, before you insert it into Adobe. Adobe is not very friendly when it comes to editing (imho). Word 2007 will produce a .pdf document for you directly, so if you have that version of Word, you may find that it will be easiest to use. Then if you have editing to do, just reopen the .doc file, make your edits and save in the .doc format first, then save in the .pdf for your ebook file to distribute. Good luck. |

I just can't seem to figure out how to do this without having an ugly white margin around the image I'm trying to use as a header, any ideas?

Maybe if I needed the header designed and put in the document, sure. Can't justify spending that kind of money on simply eliminating a small margin and giving away a product for free, unfort.

mrsleep99, In Word 2007, click on the insert tab, then header, then edit header, then picture, then browse for picture, viola. It should be sized appropriately before you insert it. Mark |

That works and is what I have tried already but it leaves a big white outline (the margin) around the image I insert, I want it to take up the entire header space all the way to the edge of the page, and I also want it to be full color (not faded when you go out of editing the header). Any ideas on that? Thanks ! | |

Well, a couple things. As far as I know, you can't print all the way to the edge of the paper in Word. There's a minimum margin (I believe it's .4" or .5"). If there's a way to print to the edge, I've never seen it in all the years I've worked with Word. When you go into a different viewing mode, you'll see that the header is full color. It only shows that way when you're in certain modes. Click the view tab and then full screen reading and you'll see it's full color. FREE TIP - If you're new to eBooks...one thing I do that customers love (and most don't offer) is offering a full color version like you are, and also a printer friendly version without all the color graphics, headers, footers, etc. to save on ink costs. I know yours will be free, but it's a very nice touch, nevertheless. Mark |

Mark, The product isn't free actually, but that's a great idea with the printer friendly version, I've seen a few people do it like hte guy I'm about to show you an example of. Here's what I'm going for: (see attached). |

It looks like Justin made the background Gray, then pasted his header the way I described, because the sides are gray. What I'd do is paste an 8.5"X11" graphic in the heading to color the page (gray in Justin's case), then paste your header on top of that, and you're good to go. Mark |

Hey Mark, The background is gray because it was a PDF and I took a screenshot of it, the white/header is the actual page. |

Well, My plan would work if you wanted it Gray. Justin's graphic doesn't go all the way to the edge either, from what it looks like. If want the whole page covered with a color or graphic, the only way I know is to paste 8.5X11 image in the header. Mark |

Hm, well I tried putting my image in and stretching it out to fit the header but I keep getting a margin, I'll keep fiddling with it and report back, I'll try a 8.5" wide image
