There are many ways you can do it, but I recommend you check out DLGuard

If you log-in to your paypal account.

Look under Profile then go to My Saved Buttons under Selling Preferences.

Edit one of the buttons on there to suit your product.

Then click step 3 - Customize Advance features, Tick Take customers to this URL when they finish checkout.

Simply enter your thank you page URL.

While I second the idea of DLGuard as your payment processor, if you are totally new to all this, you can simply set the redirect page in your PayPal button to your download address.

Long term I suggest you use something like DLGuard or at least set your redirect to an autoresponder, but if you are having trouble with the basics you can use the above method until you get the hang of it.

While you're creating your Buy Now Button, add your download/thank you page in the highlighted field in the image below

Using the PayPal mechanism to send people to unprotected pages lets anybody pass around your download page URL, and even the DL link itself, with impunity. It's really not very smart.

Some scripts that offer protected links that you can look at include: Rapid Action Profits, DLGuard, $7 Secrets Script, Butterfly Marketing, Launch Frequency Marketing, among others.

Some turn-key online services include: e-junkie, clickbank (semi-turnkey), and even the WSO section here with WSOPro.

    All take some work.

You need to consider how often you plan to publish materials, at what price, how broad the market is, and whether you want to use affiliates to help make sales or not.

I'm in the process of setting up a service where I provide the entire back-office and support for a relatively low monthly fee. It's targeted at people who plan to promote at least one new product each month. I'll also show you how to earn back the fee very easily each month as well. PM me for details. (or ask me to PM you)

    Hi dcosta,

I asked the same question a while back, and Paypal has a place where you tell it the entire URL of your download page. Paypal will then send your buyer to that page.

When you make your Paypal button (or when you edit it) there is an option called "Advanced," in there your will find the field into which you put the URL.

Here is an older thread about it:

I have been using a script that handles the Paypal, and I wanted to do exactly what you are asking without using that particular script. The above thread has the answers.

If you want to secure your download so that the download URL doesn't "get out" and people start getting it for free, you can use a service like www.payloadz.com, too.
