hey guys!

I have a question about lying. I read many IM guides etc... and one, i don't want to call, tells me i should lie. I should invent a person who have done great things in IM to catch the attention.

But...

is that legal? Or could i get trouble and should leave that idea?

Depending on exactly which lies you might tell, you could get into a great deal of trouble. At best, you could get caught out and ruin your reputation (both the real one and the fictional one), making it hard to ever sell in the market again. At worst, you could go to jail.

The fact that you asked speaks well of you. If you were suited to the 'lie to them, as long as you get their money' game, you would not have bothered to ask.

Don't people normally get in trouble for lying?

Yunbao, you don't need to compromise your principles, go against your code of ethics or sell your soul to make money online.

In other words, you don't need to lie. And you shouldn't, because one of your most valuable assets is your reputation. When you get found out (and eventually you will), you'll lose big time.

BTW, think about this for a moment...

The person who told you to lie is probably lying about his own IM track record. He's probably broke, living in his car, and writing his products at the local library (while telling talltales to "attract attention" in the field). Is that really someone you want to listen to for your money-making needs?

    Cheers,
    Becky

If you want to become a long term respected Internet Marketer I think the lying would bite your butt eventually.

Besides morally, what would Karma think of that?

    Karma bites really hard.

    Trust your gut.

If you're asking the question, you're obviously not comfortable, which is good -- it means you have a well-developed conscience. Marketing doesn't require you to be soulless and dishonest.

Congrats on having the ethics to ask.

Speaking of ethics, even if it was legal, it would still be unethical.

I'll give you a better idea. Invent the person who does great things in IM by starting right where you are at, documenting your climb from new marketer to success, and then you really have a story, one which is true, believable, and you can capture people into your sales funnel as your document your progress in a blog, forum thread, or with an email list.

Let me ask you this. How do you feel when you find out you've been lied to? Is that the way you want your customers to feel?

You can invent fictional scenarios to advertise a product. Are these real people in real situations or actors?

If it's a lie, it's a lie irrespective of the color or who is telling it.

    TURN OFF - lie.

Lie for short term profit and unhappy customers.

Tell the turth to build a long term business and respect.

My advice: Always be honest, just give it a positive spin!
