I need odesk posting tips. Looking to hire no responses.

I posted an ad on odesk and only got 1 response. I assumed I would be flooded with responses. I thought hiring a VA on there would be easy peasy

Can someone give me tips on best way to get my ad more interest?

I chose odesk because you can track work. I figured it would prevent slackers and someone would have to actually perform what is asked. Just my theory.
If that skepticism came across in your posting - that may be the reason no one wanted the job. Don't know about freelancer but I'm one of the elance "divas" and elance does allow work to be done by the hour with accountability.

That's not work that I personally do but with any outsourced work if the initial job posting indicates mistrust, it's not worth bidding on as the buyer has a pre-conceived idea that is difficult to deal with.

Also, if the job is highly detailed and a low fee is mentioned, also won't get much attention from good providers.

          just saying...

I use other, highly rated employers on oDesk to build my posts.

I go like I am looking for a job.

            oDesk.com --> Find Work --> Advanced Search

Use your keywords. Forget everything else BUT Employer Rating, At least 4 Stars.

            Look through the postings.

            This will give you:

Ideas you may not have thought of.
            Possibly better keyword ideas.
            Some ideas on pricing.

            Hope this helps.

Kay skepticism is not in my posting at all. Though, if it was just think...someone who can actually perform task wouldn't be intimidated. Only someone who plans to get over would be apprehensive.

            My 2 cents

P.S. I didn't mention a fee I just posted hourly. I really think it could be details. I sometimes am unable to convey a message simplicity. Not a hard task, but, maybe not as detailed as it should be. Though, they could just send me a message and make an inquiry can't they?

Did you pick odesk for any particular reason - as a freelancer I tried bidding on work on odesk back when it first started and I found the whole site hard to use so I worked through Elance and Freelancer instead and got a lot more work and I noted that there were a lot of bids on projects that are offered.

Just a thought - good luck

    I'm in a similar situation...
In these days, I've posted a simple job on Odesk, and I've received only 5 proposal.
It's strange because, with the previous jobs, I received a lot of responses..
    Strange...

I think the budget number and the Feedback Score minimum you choose (under the advanced settings) can have a great impact on your responses. Often I find many highly qualified providers by lowering or not even noting a feedback score. They may be just starting out or have limited experience, but a good portfolio. Then, I do a thorough interview before hiring.

Also, if you can raise your budget (even if you get more service in return) it often attracts more buyers.

I have been placing ads on there for well over a year and I have noticed somewhat of a drop off recently since they did their upgrade to the site. I'm not sure if some providers are still not up to speed on the changes or what, but it is a much slower response time lately and less applicants applying.

Freelancer has a very high response, so I have to agree with good2go4 on that. Elance tends to have a lot of divas, so I try to stay away from that one unless I have a high budget.

It's been my experience that jobs posted with an hourly wage receive 100s of applications (for low skilled work that is) whereas the same job posted with a project budget hardly receive any.

It's unfortunate that the good guys and bad guys both want the same thing. To be paid by the hour. The good ones because it's only fair to them and the bad ones because they can slack off as a result.

The trick is learning to zero in on the good ones as quickly as possible.

I'm not sure whether this may sound stupid but it seems like the headlines, the skills sets that you listed down may be quite important.

For instance, if I'm looking to hiring some easy work done, I would say something like Easy job or something like this? If you want to get the cost as low as possible, you may want to make ur ads sound that ur job is something very easy to do.

If you are hiring a more long term position, you may want to have a more detailed ad. So that the person know what they got themselves into before signing up.

You can check on the advanced search options and tick the search filters accordingly. I usually gets flooded with applicants after the expected match is in the hundreds.
