Has Adsense Gone Local?

I was just now searching for "Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 discount" , a very non-localized search, and got a very locally focused adsense panel...inside their banner...(468x60?).

WTF? That's great if they're using my ISP location or geo signature to provide me relevant ads, didn't know they could do that yet! Possibly a new avenue for SEO.

What sorta pisses me off about all this 'artificial intelligence' crap is that I can't see the same google search as my customers. I may have looked at their site and worked on it daily for a week...guess what?...It's going to come up higher on my search!

It forces us to use an outside service to get an accurate appraisal of where a customer 'really' comes up in search.

Gotta move fast to keep up apparently. Is there any solution short of clearing all your cookies and your cache to get an 'honest' google search?

  • If you don't clear your cookies frequently you see a lot of the same stuff over and over based on the IP you are logged on with. Google has been doing this for a while and seems to be really ramping it up. For me I keep seeing the same stupid coupon ads over and over.

This backfires big time in Travel Search. If I'm in Dallas and I'm going to LA I don't want to see Dallas Car Ads.

Google can't match facebook's social presence so they're trying to be more 'relevant'.

Perhaps something we could find in google labs...

I'm sure some of you google ppc can confirm whether you can target local terms now, I was just ignorant of this option
