"unblockable" popups...

I am thinking of using one of those fancy pants unblockable pops ups many people use on blogs/sales pages to build lists.

Anyone know for sure if this has any affect on how your site ranks in google? Keep in mind I'm not talking about old school pop up code as I don't think it pops open a new page instead of overlaying a page on top of your main one?

anyways I don't want to loose my top ranking in google or get slapped in adwords but use it to build a list and more.

Don't you think that forcing someone to opt into your list is really going to do any good? It will more than likely make them just leave your site right away, causing your ranking to possibly go down due to less traffic playing on your site.

If your trying to use a "friendly feeling" technique with your subscriber to get them to trust you, forcing them to opt won't do much good.

Riddelsome: Lightbox popups pretty much at this point have been tested to death and proven to have the highest conversion rate for opt-ins on a site not specifically designed as a squeeze page. I don't base anything on what I "think", I only care about what is "proven" to convert highest.

It will be programed to appear on exit anyways and have a very valuable lead-magnet. All I would like to know and am asking is about the codes effect on googles algorithm.

    Derek,
They definitely don't have any affect on your rankings if you use the DHTML versions.

I've tested both Lightbox and Footer as well as slide ins, etc...

    Just make sure to test.

And keep tracking the stats. Sometimes you'll get an initial bump, but then it fades away over time...

You also want to make sure you leave your standard sidebar form in place...because in our tests, people will close the popup, but it makes them aware of the offer....then they read the site some more, and then decide they want to take you up on the offer, and they sub via the sidebar.

    All the best,

Jack Duncan: Thanks thats more along the lines of what I was looking for. I have tested squeeze pages in the past that have a really high opt-in rate but killed off conversions to the actual offer. Not to mention the list overall was only generating about 2 sales per 700 subscribers

I plan on using a lightbox thats activated upon exiting the sales letter to follow up and make it easier for them to return.
