How Facebook Can Become Bigger In Five Years Than Google Is Today

I think that's a clear message that Facebook is the strongest Social Media Marketing tool today and it never stops growing!

From my own experience I know that it's really hard to make some profit out of Facebook marketing, but what big brands do with it it's just awesome!

I'd like to discuss the ways warriors use Facebook for their marketing campaigns.
Is it successful? What are the tricks?

  • I definitely agree with you that facebook is the biggest and most important Social Media Marketing tool available today for businesses of every kind. I have found that using facebook has generally helped promoting my websites. Also the use of fan pages has contributed a great deal. Even if facebook doesn't supply immediate conversions, it does help build up a long-term reputation which is vital for any self-respecting business.

I've had some success with Facebook Fan pages and using Facebook Ads to drive traffic to them. It's hard to say how well the visitors convert though. It definately is appreciated by customers.

I dont find it correct to compare the both. Facebook and google serves different purpose and are not at all same in their function and operations. Where Gogole is used for search purpose Facebook is popular among people who like to be in contact with their social network.

How can you compare oranges with apples?

    Hope you got my point.

      I totally agree with you
Both Google and Facebook are leading enterprises in their field and fulfill an important function in the world of internet. Google is one of the world's largest search engine which offers invaluable features (e.g. keyword statistics, archived pages, etc.) for gleaning vital information off the web. We all know that the world of business hinges on information; without information businesses can't effectively plan their marketing strategies. Facebook on the other hand is one of the most important tools for publicizing your website and business; Facebook fan pages are free of charge and in many ways more effective than costly commercial advertisements in the media.

Most of people in Facebook, are there to play games, not doing business. And who clicks on your ad, is doing it only, as it looks interesting....not that he/she wants this. Salespage will do the rest...

Yes, true, you can advertise there, but thats mostly all. If you go there, to do business and meet business people, what you get is huge spam on your wall "my business is better than yours, buy it, or piss off". Something like that. Don't belive me? Try it, and start meeting new people with IM interests. They don't provide no value, nothing...even don't bother cloacking affiliate links. You get sick of it.

Manishrawat said well, "can you compare oranges with apples".

I've been reluctant to dive into Facebook advertising simply because it isn't currently a destination for sales. No one thinks, "I need a new widget . . . I think I'll check Facebook for the best options and prices."

That doesn't mean it can't be profitable, but it seems to be more of a brand marketing tool than a direct marketing tool.

I have to agree that Facebook is one good way of getting clients to your business who really need the things you offer. However, I also agree that there is no point of comparison between Facebook and Google. FB is just one website that can be searched under Google. Hence, Google can be connected to lots of other sites like main pages, social networking pages, etc. in a general search. Facebook on the other hand is a more specific tool to find target clients within the network. I think they should only be compared with sites of the same nature and marketing approach.

build relationships with facebook, dont try to sell and dont spam, get a fan page going and start building a fan page for that niche, consistantly update your fan page with good quality stuff and people will trust you.

I agree, Facebook requires a different approach than Google. It is important to build a relationship with people on Facebook and wait to convert that relationship into sales. Google can be used successfully for short-term results, but I think that Facebook has more long-term potential because of the relationships that are developed.

well, recognizing the two are different, the approaches should be different. People who are looking for something directly will be using Google, and they are more likely to be in a buying mentality. With facebook, what's necessary is more of an attention-grabber/teaser, something that informs/adds value, and only then would you start suggesting a sale. So, yes, a sales page could be at the end of a funnel, but only after a little massaging.

My site is a small-ish one. However it gets picked up quite well.

I made an FB fan page & 'sent' it out to some previous cutomers, who 'liked' it.

Once that was up for a few months, I tested the water with a three day ad'. Over the three days I got exactly the maximum amount of 'clicks' for which I'd paid. As in I capped my ad's max payment & that's what it came in at to the penny lol.

I received a couple of extra 'likes'.

Since then I've made a page which is 'as a person' but is to direct folks to my 'fan page' & onwards towards my site.

These two FB pages are slowly receiving more 'likes' & friends accordingly & analytics is showing a slow increase of hits on my site - I'm assuming this is related.

I won't know if FB is bringing me customers until next seasons booking start to come in (3 weeks already booked for 2011, but as result of direct hits).

      Time will tell I guess
