Domain Registration info - country related

Hi,

I need a little information about Domain registration.

as we know .de is for Germany and .fr is for France.

I would like to know, Can anyone from anywhere in the world of any nationality register Domains with .de, .fr, .ch etc. which are country related?

Where can I get correct information about rules and terms regarding these kind of Domain Registration?

thanks.

As far as I know, there's no rule against registering country-based domains per se -- anyone can register a .co.uk, for example. Or .tk. Or .de or .ch.

If there are any restrictions, it may be that certain countries only allow residents/citizens/domestic businesses to register domains of that country, but I don't know of a centralized database that lists what they are. You may have to check on a country by country basis.

here is a list of TLD's with a description of the requierements

I use eurodns.com for my more obscure registrations, they are quite good at telling you what criteria are needed but more importantly offer a "local presence " which will allow you,at a price, to register more restricted domains.

    Hope this helps

At least with .ca (Canada) you have to live here and I understand there are similar requirements with a lot of the country domains. Yesss!!! (I like .ca)

I'm not sure how far the verification goes. If a Canadian has registered a .ca and someone wants to buy it, doubt if they check up on the buyer's location. (but I should check on that some day)

.ie domains for Ireland are quite restrictive

    Registrations Policy

.co.uk have some restrictions as well

"In order to register a .CO.UK domain name you must be a UK citizen or resident, or you need to register the domain for a UK registered company or organization."

Thanks for your posts. Actually I was thinking of trying my luck with Domain Sale with various country based extensions since .com is extremely hard to be found for popular search terms.

Do you think it will work? isn't there any demands for country based Domains?
