What do Men like to buy on the web?

I enjoyed reading this thread other thread here about women's buying habits. This got me made me curious about men's online buying habits. As a woman I'd find it interesting to hear from guys on this forum about what they like to buy online. I'll be grateful for anybody to answer this thread.
I hope I'm not the only one interested in this topic

So your niche has proven to be a successful choice. Did you choose this niche because you started off selling car parts and sports equipment in a physical store? Or did you start off directly with an online store? I assume you chose this niche because you like buying these things online and assumed others did as well.

A man can buy anything to make her woman happy. In my country, most men buy tickets to play fantasy football, lottery, etc online. Why? They want to make quick money and make their women happy by buying for them anything they want.

    Imagine that.

I would say generally the spending habits of men would be similar. Products to improve appearance, stuff needed for the house. I'd say the main difference is that men buy far more electronical items online - your iPhones, iPads, Macs, PC's, Video Games etc

Oh, that's useful to know
Where do men generally prefer to buy these things? On Ebay? Or at a regular online shop? Personally I prefer to buy on ebay because they have customer protection. However if I know the owner of the online store personally, i.e. through a Facebook Fan Page or from an online forum, then I'll buy there as well.

I think Amazon would be the main place they go, I find a lot of people use eBay for smaller products but prefer to have a warranty with a big retailer.

Of course a lot of the older generation will still by these from bricks and mortar stores as they prefer to walk in to the store and have any issues sorted there and then as apposed to messing about sending the item back to amazon for example...

This is an important tip for marketing strategies - personally I've been in two minds whether to join the Amazon.com affiliate program, because they offer a relatively low percentage on each sale. But what you say about men's buying habits (electronic gadget cost a little more than a $2.00 lip-gloss), then it just might be a good idea to pursue this idea a little further.

I generally shop online at a variety of store sites like Walmart, Target, Home Depot, etc, make my decision, then go buy at a store.

I'd be grateful if you could elaborate on this. What do you prefer to buy on each of these internet stores? What are your criteria for deciding where to buy what? After all there are a large array of online shops for every type of product?

Here in my country, women generally shop online for fashion stuff like accessories, clothing, perfumes, handbags etc. And men usually shop for gadgets, mobile phones and computer parts.

Personally, eBay is my favorite when I shop online because of PayPal's buyer protection. Also, I can sometimes find some bargains there.

Sorry, the point I was trying to make was that I didn't buy online...

Basically if I want something I check out Amazon, Walmart, etc...I'm looking for price, features and customer reviews.

Once I make a decision, I'll go the the nearest store that carries the product with the best price and buy it there.

I hate stores, but love to "window shop" online...Now when I go to Target I know exactly what I'm getting, walk straight to it, get it and go.

Basically, I do the research online, but buy in person.

About the only things I buy online are IM related, but I do buy a lot of that stuff too.

Yep and men also love a good review. The successful amazon affiliates certainly are not promoting the $10 dvd's. It will be items of $200 upwards to make that 7-8% worthwhile. With that said there are similar items in that price range in the womens demographic. The amazon kindle seems to be popular amongst women 30+ as an example..

My hubby loves gadgets - any thing shiny bright and new lol. He can also be prepared to accept gifts of software, anything to do with the computer, scripts he can fiddle with on his computer and watches. The watches only because he goes through them at a rate of about 1 every 14 days.

But I am not so sure that a lot of men shop online - or maybe it is just the men I know. My dad buys books online from auction sites and presents for his lady friend - usually clothes, but in this country I have found him to be the exception. If my hubby buys me things online guess what I get - more gadgets!! And most men I know reckon they don't have any money because their women spend it all on shopping - maybe kiwi blokes can learn a bit about how the rest of the men around the world think - and buy for somebody else for a change, lol.

    Just my opinion of course

  • Most of the times, I buy air tickets..... Then it comes to internet services, softwares, movie tickets...and so on...

For jewelry, mobiles and other tangible items, I buy directly from stores...but check the features on the net before buying...

After China, India is the largest market for jewelry and gemstones worldwide. They rank at the top of the list for importers worldwide. The Americas also export crystals, gemstones and jewelry, but their prices are far from competitive. I have "met" on facebook some nice guys from India who export gemstones and jewelry, but I'm a bit wary about buying stuff from so far away because there's so much counterfeit being sold as "genuine" gemstones. Can you give a few names of reliable merchants for gemstones and silver jewelry in India?
