What have you tried?

Article marketing - uploading free content to article directories
Video marketing - doing the same thing except uploading videos to video directories
Niche forum posting - if you want targeted traffic
Niche blog posting - as above
Press releases - free press release system at PRLog.com
Free reports - upload to free ebook directories
Back linking
Pinging (?)
SEO on your site
Heaps of keyword rich content on your site

Basically if you want traffic to your sites you need to either put in the time or pay out the money. It does take a bit of time (or money), but it will work

Here's the secret.

Now, some people might write up this little secret and sell it as a WSO for $7, but, today only, I'm going to give it to you absolutely free.

It's a simple two-step process.

Step One: Post quality content on your site.

You can create it yourself or pay someone to create it for you. It can be informative or entertaining or any combination thereof. It could be an article. It could be a video. It could be an image. Or, again, any combination thereof.

Step Two: Tell people about it.

Share the link with people. Use bookmarking sites. Use Facebook, Twitter and other social networking services. Make sure you have a sitemap Google knows about. Have an RSS feed. Etc.

Another secret here... The point of sharing is just to get the ball rolling. Some people will create crummy content and then build a whole lot of backlinks to it to fool Google and other search engines and then they call it a day. Well, SEs are catching on to that sort of thing. You want to create quality content and then you want to get the link out to places people will actually see the link and visit the site. From there, if it's real quality content, people will begin linking to the content and sharing it themselves. That, in turn, helps you in the search engines too.

That's it. You're done.

Shhhhh. Don't let the word get out or everyone will be doing this.

These are usually free traffic generation methods:
- on-page SEO with keyword-rich and great contents
- comment on other blogs that have similar topic to yours
- participate in forums and share good opinions to interact with others
- submit articles to directories like EzineArticles, Squidoo, HubPages etc.
- connect with others via social media sites (Facebook, Twitter etc.)
- exchange link with other sites that are related to your niche
- spend some amount on PPC ads
Well, there are a lot more ways to generate traffic. Some are available for free and some are not. And if you want, you can always hire someone to do these tasks for you.

  Take your keyword list and use google alerts to be informed almost live about actual forum posts regarding in your niche. Participate in the discussions and set links. BUT DO NOT SPAM, GIVE USEFUL INFORMATIONS!

All good points.

Once you are finished with to those create any kind of video you can about your niche. Some images and music can even work.

Then put your full url in the description of your video IE: http://www.yoursite.com

This will get traffic to your site easily.

If you want to kick it up, YouTube has a PPC program too. VERY cheap, and VERY effective.

One method that I use to get some fresh traffic and backlinks is commenting on blogs. Jason Potash has a great software called Comment Kahuna that is free to download. It is easy to use. That is one way to get traffic to your website.

I agree with what’s posted here and in fact you already got lots of detailed list. In doing social bookmarking, make sure to pay socialmarker.com to obtain a full list of high traffic social bookmarking sites. Sign up and start posting what you want to share online to get better traffic. The good thing is signing up is simple that you can do it on your own without problems.

"...without spending too much money" is all relative. Using PPC or other paid advertising on web 2.0 sites can be cost effective if your sales funnel is good enough. If you are in a hurry that's probably the quickest method.

If you have patience, everything recommended on this thread will get you to where you want to be with the lowest cost. These recommendations are the best ways to get traffic long term and consistently.

That being said everything recommended on this thread can be bought. You can outsource pretty much everything that will get you traffic "...without spending too much money"

Only you know what "too much money is"!
