  • Hi BJ,

I used to do a lot of interviewing for a company I used to work for and we used to use what was called competency based interviewing.

Within that we identified the skills and competencies for the position we were offering and used to ask a question about a specific competency.

For example we used to use questions such as "Can you tell us about a time when you had to develop a working relationship with someone despite it being difficult at first"

That way they can't tell you about theory, they have to tell you about a specific skill and what they did. So often when people employ someone they hear a person describe what they would do which gives them a chance to spin you some BS. When you ask them what they have done in this way they have to give you some facts.

    Hope it helps

    I ask one question:
'Do you know what a skipjack is?'

I have found the answer to that is as good an indicator as any other.
