Any Ideas How Much This Will Cost

I am thinking of hiring a programer to build me a piece of software. To help eliminate all the other multiple tools I have to use.

However I do not have an idea as to how much it is going to cost me and if it would be worth it. I would eventually sell it down the road. So I would be able to get my money back for doing so. I mostly use vworker as my outsourcing location.

Has anyone had any workers build them software for both sale and personal use. If so how much did it cost you and how much should I be looking to spend on having this built for me. I also want to have the software 2 staged so that I can give it to my affiliates later done the road so they can brand the trial version with their affiliate links.

Thanks

Software is all dependant on what you need. If it is something simple (really simple) you would be looking at the lowest price of $500. If it was something a little more than simple you could be looking at $20,000.

I know of programs that have cost $30,000 and they are rather straight forward to code.

The first app I had written on rentacoder (vworker now) cost me $1500 plus another $500 for add on's bonuses etc.

I had a ready market for it and got 10 times my money back in less than a week...but I twitched a bit at the first bid for $1500.

I've sold over 2000 copies at around $50 since then (3 years ago) so in hindsite it all worked out.

I'd try to make sure you had sales 'in the bag' before investing heavily though.

    Good luck

    petevamp,
Hmm...there's not going to be a "correct answer" to this question, because we don't have all the info we need.

It could cost you anything from $20 to $30,000+...it depends entirely on what you are trying to do.

One tip I can give...spend a ton of time mapping out everything on paper...and then do it some more. For every step or process that really isn't necessary, you can save yourself a boatload.

Also, this keeps you from having to constantly "patch" things in the development process...which costs more money.

Be very wary of scope creep...make sure you set a budget, and stick with it.

Market research is key if you plan on marketing it down the road.

    All the best,

I'm a developer myself, and can say, yes, please do that. The more detailed, the better. I much prefer clients who have a nicely written, 4 page Word document full of specs, versus a client who has nothing more than, "I want to setup an affiliate program!".

As for how much to pay, you're currently in the "I want a really cool piece of software developed" category right now. Sit down, open up Word, and write out some specs. Preferably, spend the next week writing them out. Bang out the initial draft, then come back to them for 15 - 30 mins every day, as there'll be extra things you remember / think of every day.

Again, the more detailed, the better. You have to give more details than, "I want to take care of all my daily tasks from one software system".

From there, you'll be able to get a solid quote. Feel free to PM me if you need assistanc

Petevamp, all this here is not my business (maybe I am the only one). But thanks to Jack's earlier thread I am now extensively employing WIZARDS for all I do, both business-wise and privately. - I eat, sleep, and ... still myself though.

I haven't found anything yet that I couldn't build into a software powerhouse = WIZARD. And I love doing this cause I need challenges for my brain not to be bored.

Send me a PM and if your idea interests=challenges me, I'll do it for you without charging those crazy amounts programmers charge. I will charge SOMETHING though to keep the balance of give and take.

(As I am not a salesman, I haven't published many products yet. I recently ran a test sale with a WIZARD package I had built earlier, see my sig, which proved again that I am not a salesman...)
