Technology Information Website?

I'm very passionate about computer technology and technology in general and was thinking about starting a technology information site that provides information on all the latest gadgets and gizmos etc, as well as marketing some related products. The keyphrase that I have searched google with in quotes comes back with 5,130 results, but without the quotes it has 399,000,000. Google Keyword tool tells me the Competition, Global Monthly Searches, Local Monthly Searches, and Local Search Trends came back with nothing. The Estimated Avg. CPC gave a result of $0.09. Does that tell me that if I used this keyword in the domain name would be beneficial and get decent traffic?

    Hi Mike,

Traffic (aka "searches") is really the most important dynamic. Without traffic, nothing else really matters.

The 9 cents a click is a little low, but would be OK if you are getting a lot of traffic for the keywords.

The competition of 5,130 results is good, but the other numbers probably don't justify developing an entire domain around.

Try creating a huge list of every product you can and run the research for each of them. Plan on building a lot of pages and use some of the highest traffic keywords, a few with the lowest competition (assuming a little traffic and 10 cents per click), a few with the highest click price, then a blend of all three, as each has advantages and disadvantages.

IMO, throw out the traditional keyword advice of looking for a good keyword. Instead, spend the next week researching 1000's of keywords and pick the best 20-100 keywords your find and start developing content/pages for each.

Yeh I agree with Kurt. Especially for domain go for higher searched keywords and look at competition second.

Also Mike don't get analysis paralysis - the domain is important to an extent however nothing beats diving in and just starting. You would probably be ahead of 90% of people wanting to make money online.

I totally agree with both of them. The domain is a factor and you will want to research which one you could honestly rank for, however, you can rank for any keyword with the right internet marketing.

My recommendation, like above and then research how many products you want to sell, if it is 20 find 20 with cpa offers and/or affiliate programs.
