Anyone use Screenflow? (Camtasia for Apple?) A ? inside

Hi there,

Somebody's gotta love Mac here.

I'm going nuts trying to figure out what to export my nice beautiful videos in so that the download times are reasonable.

Web - low doesn't do it, too fuzzy

Web - low (best quality) looks good, but takes one min download time per five min of video

Any hints on how to make my 35 min "How to" video a much faster download?

Thanks!

    Hi Coach,

ScreenFlow's presets make for pretty large file sizes. After you choose "Export," you can click on "Customize" and get access to all the Quicktime parameters.

To make the file smaller within H.264, you can experiment with lowering the Quality slider to medium, changing the frame rate to 15 frames per second, or decreasing the size of the movie to 320x240.

If you REALLY want to decrease the file size, export from ScreenFlow as "NTSC DV" - which gives you a huge Quicktime file. Then import that full quality Quicktime into a good Flash video encoder. I can usually get very good quality in the Flash video with a file size about one fifth of the size you get with the Quicktime presets.

Follow Steve's advice... His methods are perfect and what I would do as well.

      Wow, thanks, Steve.

What flash video encoder would you suggest?

And will it make a big enough video that they can see
on the screen how to do the things I am showing them
how to do on the editor?

      Thanks again.

I have been using an encoder called VisualHub. The current version works great for converting to flv or mp4. Only problem is the author has discontinued future updates on it - it is supposed to be released free as open source room.

    Does Stomp help?
    Stomp

Otherwise you might be better splitting your videos into part1, part2 etc. (Lots of people struggle to watch longer videos anyway.)

Interesting! I'll have to investigate Stomp further. I've got it open in my window, and when something promises to solve my problem so easily that Grandma can do it, I've got to pay attention.

when you export it from screenflow.... it comes out as a .mov file.

import it into visualhub (its really cheap) and it converts it into a .flv file (flash video) if you want to host the video files yourself (or on S3).

Otherwise just upload the .mov file to youtube.

        hope that helps.
