Need Help Deciding Which Premium WP Theme To Buy

Hey Warriors,

I'm looking into purchasing a premium WP theme. I am currently trying to choose between
the iThemes Flexx or Thesis. There seems to be quite a learning curve with Flexx. I like the
sites that I have seen made with Thesis and it just seems to be easier to use.

I have and can use free WP themes but, I suck at getting them to look the way I want.
Drawback, Thesis $164 (I can get discount for this though)...iTheme Flexx $79.

Would like some input on these themes or another premium theme that is easy to manipulate
the look.

I've never used Flexx, but I can tell you that Thesis has a steep learning curve. If you want something super-easy to customize, I'd go with Atahualpa - it's free, and it has pages and pages of options for customization.

Do you have a time limit on how long you want to work with the theme to get it up and going?

        Hello Jill,

Maybe about a week. I have a new niche I want to get into. Already bought the domains
        both .com and .net

        Hot new toy :-)

Any suggestions on a premium theme?

My friend uses Thesis but it took him a while to learn and he managed to have one of his outsourcers learn it but it took some time and they're still learning it (this is 3+ months in).
I personally use FlexSqueeze and find it nice because it's so easy. I haven't tried the other you're mentioning, but I'll take a look now. I think the main factor is if you're going to dedicate your time to learning it and really need complete control over every aspect of your site then I would say Thesis.

However I've asked this same question before and that's how I was referred to FlexSqueeze given the response that Thesis even by experienced WP users could be a headache but entirely worth it if you're ready to spend the time learning it, if not you might want to look elsewhere for a faster speed of implementation. For the style of sites I make FS works perfectly fine.

        Good evening Palaecro,

Yes, I want something that I can completely control and manipulate. I had found a site
made with Thesis just yesterday to show as an example but, I can't seem to locate it
again. I have even tried Artisteer...didn't like it.

      Hey Cindy,

I have seen the theme but never used it. I'll upload it onto one of my sites and see
      what functions it has.

      Thank you

Actually after just visiting the site and taking a look at it I think I might try out Ithemes flexx myself potentially. I really doubt its tougher to use than Thesis. Probably take a day to learn where-as thesis seems like an ongoing learning project. Again though if you're ok with that then Thesis may be what you are looking for.

I bought the developer version of Flexx and am very satisfied with it. I can grab anyone of 9 themes and put it up and tweak it within an hour. The best part is the layout function. First thing I do is insert my own custom header graphic, then tweak the layout for one column, two column or three column and then add or subtract the navigation buttons above or below the header, lastly custom position the footer widget. I can make it one, two or three sections wide. I can also change the background color. Very cool themes to work with. No problems with the Flexx theme and I have been working with it for 3 years already.

        Hey Bruce,

That's $199 for the Multi-Flex Pack ? Ouch...I have the money but don't know if I want to
spend that much right now. If you could tell me a little more I'd appreciate it !

Reason why I didn't flinch at the $199 charge for the developer pack is because at the time I bought, I sold a blog website job to a high tech company for $890, so that covered the cost of that before I even bought! Since then I have used it for 45 other blog clients I have. Works like a charm.

What is most important is they have a support forum within their site. I have used the forum to help me on several issues I had at the beginning and the mods and other users solved my problems within days. So the support is great.

Whatever you get, make sure you stay with the theme designs for a while so you can to know the ins and outs of how the them works. I tried Thesis for a whole week and didn't care for it much.

You might want to also check out frugaltheme.com and headwaythemes.com They cost around $169 for their developer pack but they are worth it too. I plan on getting headway next month.

I use a combination of Artisteer and the Artisteer addon, Templateer.

Artisteer - joomla template generator and wordpress theme generator

            The Templateer: Home

If you are just going to work with WordPress, you'll be able to use the home Edition and you can even sell the themes you create with it.

I am currently staying with the Artisteer 24 version, but I am getting ready to install the newest version and try it out.

Artisteer has an active Forum and Bud, the developer of Templateer gives terrific support. There is also a Templateer Forum, btw.

I have become attached to Thesis myself, but the real key here is that both Themes have large user bases and support forums (in addition to user communities) that you can turn to for help and guidance. Whichever theme you use, make sure that there is a large base of users that are actively using it; by using this as your selection criterion you know help is never that far away when you need it!

      @paulie888,

I couldn't agree with you more. The more active the support forum is for any premium theme site, the better. And it shows the dedication of the company behind the theme series is to the customer.

You don't need to buy a premium word press theme. Good ezwordpress themes. These are nice and they are FREE.

    I prefer Thesis.

When I land on a WordPress site done in Flexx, they always have the same look and feel. That doesn't impress me.

But I have seen some really sharp sites done with Thesis. Some of them don't even look like Thesis, depending on who you get to customize for you.

Thesis - If you've the time and coding skills, this is my most recommended.

WooThemes - If you're looking for a nice designed and well coded premium theme.

ElegantThemes - If you've budget but still need unlimited use of all its premium themes.
