Social Media Branding??? What to do?

Hi Guys,

I am in a bit of a pickle, and I would just like some ideas, thoughts, or advice on what to do with the name of my social media accounts... stay with me... I know it is a funny thing to ask... but I am about to hit the social media networks for the first time (mainly twitter and facebook fan page) and was wondering is it better to have my real name as the account username or my website name as the account username? (As far as marketing is concerned).

I would really grateful for anything you can pass on to me.

Regards & Thank YOU!

I started with my website name, but if I did it again I'd probably use my real name simply because I've now expanded to having more than just that one website under my name. So I guess it depends on your specific aims and future expansion plans.

Also, personally on Twitter I like connecting with people who at least have some sort of "real name" (even if just a first name) connected to their account.

    Hope that helps a little.

      I'm with Ruth on this.

Another point about using your names is you can market various, and multiple products and services from your-name.com.

And you still have the option of having a keyword rich website in addition to your-name.com.

One thing I might add is that you can have the same theme for you-name.com, Twitter background, Facebook fanpage, and your YouTube account.

And if you're so inclined you can use your logo in your PayPal and AWeber accounts.

      Hope this helps.

Social media is the most powerful tool to do promotion for FREE! Organisations are looking keenly at Facebook fan pages as it is one of the potential IM field. If you can possibly make a followers list of 2k in Twitter, then you can sale your tweets and earn some bucks!...

Yes you can give your real name, no harm.

    Best Wishes!

that actually depends on the business. Many do actually use personal branding, like i said depends on the business.

ifi agree with diyakapoor, if its a business, definitely use the business name to grow brand awareness, but if not, there is no harm in building your own name and reputation

Business name - or what you actually do.

You are trying to build a business brand so your name is a waste of keyword space.

Your real name is for personal contact.

Aside from branding your business name with creative tag lines, what you can do is to customize every social media sites that you can customize in terms of design. Of course, you want your clients to know that it’s your business by just seeing its colors. You can do it in Facebook but you need to download a plugin for it.

For twitter, you can visit this link Twitter Help Center to help you customize your page. You can also find background options online to personalize your page.
