Is Internet marketing as we know it over?

I've been online now for 10 years and seen changes that made some go and others thrive.

Big changes are now coming thanks to google that is going to force everyone to change how they market themselves through ppc and search engines. Google is killing the one page sales letter.

Why would internet marketing be over?

Google has been the 500 pound Gorilla for some time now. But not anymore...

Many new companies like Facebook, Youtube, etc. have been rapidly growing and will take Google's throne.

And more importantly to answer you questions, Google is NOT the only way to market online. I mean if the foundation of your business is Google, then YES you're doomed to fail, but if you've built your business' foundation on something other than Google you have a high chance of success.

Google is NOT the only way to market...Internet Marketing is growing and will be around for a very very long time.

      Viva La Internet Marketing!

I think the days of one page salesletter websites ranking well may be over (if they weren't already) but that's not really a problem for anyone with actual valuable content to contribute who is trying to build a business and not just a pass through affiliate site.

I had actually figured 1 page sales letter sites hadn't been ranking for a long time now as it was. I think most people are probably only trying to rank with their blog/site that leads to the sales letter anyways, so hopefully things will still go well.

I am ranking third for a two word keyword with my one page sales letter. Granted it's only 60-70 uniques at that third positon (prob a few hundred at daily at 1.), but it's still very targeted traffic.

So you CAN rank with a one page sales letter. It's just a question of competition and skills.

If your one page isn't ranking then try doing an onpage SEO check. Lots and lots of sites have bad on page seo, such as duplicate content issues. Xsitepro can create dupe content for example, which will keep your site in limbo forever.

There is no difference in the eyes of the Google bot on a one page sales page and a static html niche site.

Just because on method of promotion is becoming more difficult and less effective doen't mean it is "dead".

It just means as marketers we have to become more creative and try different things.
Test to see what works and keep doing it.

The one page sales letters haven't been doing well for quite some time, that is why smart marketers leverage the authority sites like web 2.0, article directories and the other high ranking sites to send the traffic to those one page sales letters.

We have to be constantly evolving....

    Just my 2 cents.

  • Why do people expect things to remain exactly the same? Change is the only constant.

Of course it's going to change.

  • hi,

interesting PDF file. The Internet is not "over", and yes of course you always need to be able to adapt. If you still want to use the one page sales model, you can always look to Facebook advertising, which not only has proved very lucrative for some people, but can also save you a lot in terms of lead generation.

So, instead of you paying five dollars per lead, as you were with Google advertising, quite conceivably you could be paying only $.50 to one dollar.

Google is not the only game in town, although they certainly do have their hands in a lot of different pots.

Check out the different advertising sources.

Wonder if Facebook will ever sell controling interest to Google? I think that may be in the cards, I have heard for a long time that Facebook is hurting, or at least causing Google to loose money.

Google bought up Utube, and I don't think facebook isn't going to get away with pooping around Googles dinner plate for much longer.

I hope I'm wrong because Google is a school yard bully, for sure. They just seem to push everyone around to suite themselves.

It's not failing because of google hun. It's because their is a TON more competition. A ton of computer savvy's swamping the internet. That's not a bad thing - it's just more challenging. Step up your game boys.

I think the great thing about marketing where ever you need to do it is that yesterday's game always goes stall and there is a great reward for authentic innovation.

So marketing internet or otherwise just keeps on reinventing itself, and google amongst alsorts of other things will identify unique presentations of information better than something that just copies a previous method

Keep on coming up with new ideas, thats what keeps this fun and challenging

The Internet Marketing world is always changing and evolving. In the 4 years I have been a member of this forum I have seen dozens of methods come and go and there are always new methods becoming available all the time.

No single method will ever stay highly profitable without change. Once it gets popular and tons of people are using it then the SE's will change their rules and that method will not be as effective any longer.

This doesn't mean anything is "dead" it just means that things are constantly evolving and changing, which is life.
