Setting Up Free membership Site Using Wordpress

I;m looking to add a membership site to the back-end of my wordpress Blog and wondered if anyone could recommend the simplest software / system to use.

It'll need to generate a username and password but that's about it for now.

Thanks in advance.

wishlist member is set up to do this with wordpress - its a plugin. Dont know if its simpler than just password protecting your posts... but it does what you want.

You should check out the s2Member plugin, it's free and can be integrated with PayPal for a paid membership site.

An excerpt from the s2Member plugin download page:

"s2Member is an extremely powerful ( and free ) membership management system for WordPress®. The s2Member Framework ( free ) integrates seamlessly with PayPal® ( very easy ), and fully supports recurring billing, with the ability to track affiliate commissions on a recurring basis. s2Member supports custom Pages for registration ( including Custom Registration Fields ), account access, and a whole lot more. Now compatible with Multisite Networking too, and even with BuddyPress if you like!"

    Hi,

Wishlist is great but I also use a plugin called delMEM which is directly integrated with my payment system Delavo.

Simpler than Wishlist (which I own too).

Wishlist have it sown up in my view - I have 2 sites that run it and can't fault it. They also have a membership site for membership site owners that's very informative - wishlistinsider I think

Yeah, I'm a big fan of wishlist.

I'm pretty sure you can get a plug in for password protection etc.

Suggest the OP think ahead regarding th scaling of the membership site.

In other words... what will you need down the track?? This will save a ton of trouble later on.

    Michael,

I would like to suggest that you also take a look at http://DigitalAccessPass.com (DAP) .

Will give you a lot more ideas about what is possible when you have the right solution.

I know whishlist is a popular option, but I really don't see the appeal. There are plenty of alternatives that are just as good, better supported and cheaper (including Ravi's DAP and our own "Your Members"). Take the time to weigh up all the alternatives and get the one that best fits your need rather than just jumping for the first one you come across.

Somewhere on here is a thread detailing all the currently available ones.

      My "Observation Of The Day":

      ---------------------------------
When marketers create software, the marketing is much better than the software.

When geeks create software, the software is much better than the marketing.

Regardless, it is the "Remarkableness" of the "Product", that will ultimately prevail.
      ---------------------------------

Go ahead and quote me on that ;-)

And no points for guessing which category DAP belongs to (duh! 2nd one - in case you couldn't guess :-)

      Cheers!

      - Ravi

I have two membership sites and both use Wishlist. I would definately recommend it. It's very easy to install and set up.

If you are even thinking that way down the track you might want to set up another membership site, then get the multi user one, rather than single user (much more cost effective solutions).

    Cheers Donna
