Sneaky Ezine publisher problem

I found one of my articles reprinted on a Singapore web hosting site. My resource box is intact, but the links have no styling so anybody would know they are links unless they mouse over them.

Ezine's publisher guidelines state this: d. Agree to make all links so that they are Active/Linkable with no syntax changes.

Technically, they've done this, but in my opinion, they're obviously violating the spirit of the agreement. I contacted them and asked them to fix it.

I realize that I will still get the benefit of the backlink, but am I right in believing that I should also be able to expect some traffic from people seeing and clicking the links?

It's even worse with the recent growth in popularity of autoblogs (I hate them). I've even found several of my articles with the resource links changed to the blog owner's own affiliate links. I used to try to get them taken down, but none of the autoblog owners ever got back to me, and you just can't go after everyone.

My advice is to just grin and bear it, and focus your energy onto something more positive. I know it stinks, and you feel robbed, but try to move on and not think about it.

I generally agree with you that your time will be better spent doing more productive tasks...

But if the auto-blog owner will not respond to your request, their web hosting company usually will, because they don't want to be seen as facilitating behavior that violates someone's legal copyright...

The best thing you can do in this situation is keep on creating good articles, and don't worry about the few dishonest folks who rip them off or steal your traffic. This happens to many EZA writers and it's mostly a waste of time trying to police all of your articles.

In my personal experience as a writer, most people who use an EZA article are honest, and will show the resource box and make the link clickable.

Thanks, MRRRules, you're probably right. Interestingly, I checked their site today and now my article is gone. Not what I asked for, but whatever. I suppose if I'd kept my mouth shut I wouldn't have lost the backlink, but there are plenty of people out there who do abide by Ezine's TOS, so I'm certainly not going to fret about it.

Life and death are in the power of the tongue.

Having said this, I will rather be an honorable man than make all the money in the world.

    Hi Laura,

I don't know which site that is but I've come
to expect that not everyone reads the TOS
and not everyone knows how to properly use
    the re-publish option in EzineArticles.

Copy-and-paste by highlighting the chunk of
text to republish on their own site is what
    many people do.

And when that happens, the link in the resource
box can get de-linked. You can simply ask them
to link it to you properly or just leave it be.

Truth be told, you'll do better just moving on.

Thank you everyone for your replies. The only reason I even noticed it was due to the Google Alert I had on my name; I definitely don't waste time trying to track all of my articles!
