Do I need different email accounts?

I've just got a website going and need to start adding to it, registering with various things like Amazon Affiliate, Adsense etc that all ask for my email address.

I also do freelance proofreading and want to get into other areas of IM, also needing my email address.

Would you have different email accounts for each thing to keep everything separate and to have a relevant email address (for example, an email address that's similar to my website name) or doesn't it matter?

Is it complicating things?

The only email address I have now is just my full name and I obviously have a user name for some things. Are there any disadvantages to people knowing your full name in any aspect of IM or do you always have to give your full name as well as any username?

I'd be grateful for your views, it's brought me to a halt!!

I say, sure, go for it. Email addresses are cheap and easy to come by, so why not. You can also have one main address and have all your other addresses forward to that one so that you can have multiple addresses but still only have to check one box

gmail has a multi-inbox / priority inbox that supports up to 5 given inboxes

you can then set filters to have specific accounts emails come into specific inboxes =)

I would recommend have a few emails to separate things in your business. Keep a personal email that you can just use with vendors and partners like LC@yourbiz.com, keep another one for customers like support@yourbiz.com. You can set up more to organize other areas - its up to you. Just try to prepare yourself for future growth.

You don't need to use your full name in your email. It is common to use firstname@yourbiz.com or firstinitiallastman@yourbiz.com - use whatever you want. keep your name out of your email if you want and only give your name when you want to or need to. Totally up to you...

That would drive me nuts. All of my important stuff is under one email address and I have different folders where I keep things separate that I want to keep. I wouldn't want to have to log in and out of numerous email accounts all day.

Any business class email or hosting service will provide multiple emails without needing to login to different email accounts. It would be much more difficult to run a growing business with just one email - especially if you have multiple sites and products.

I have a personal email address and a business email address that are my main ones. I also have some admin addresses for my sites, but they redirect to my business account. I like to keep my personal stuff personal.

Thanks for your advice, looks like a a few accounts feeding into one box. I'll look into gmail.

I have a hotmail account atm, does that mean I have to change my email address for the contacts I have already or is there a way to forward their emails to a new account?

I use various email addresses in gmail and domain emails, but I forward them all to 1 gmail account that I use as my "control" account. I can see all the mails coming in from the various addresses and don't have to log in to all my accounts. I only log in if I want to reply but in many instances I reply from my "control" account. I go into the other accounts every now and again and archive all the mails
