Can someone help me with FTP issue?

Hi,

I uploaded a few files to my host and now it says it can't connect to server because there are too many connections (4) on this IP.

This is very frustrating.

Any advice for a newbie in crisis?

Thanks,
Melanie

Did you log out of ftp after each file upload? I'm guessing you did one, didn't
log out but shut down your ftp program, logged in again with one connection
still active and did this several times.

Let us know exactly what steps you took and maybe somebody can help
    you troubleshoot.

If all else fails, you can simply contact your web host, tell them the problem
and they can probably release the connections for you.

Also, did you have any login problems where you couldn't remember your
    password?

That's true. Most ftp software will show you each of your connections and
you should be able to disconnect right there. I use Smart ftp and it shows
me my connections right in the window, lower left side.

I didn't log out after each upload.

I didn't know that was necessary

        I am using filezilla.

If you can just wait some time (20 minutes to 2 hours), it might clear itself. I often use this "wait and see" method if stuff's not important.

  • You'll need to contact your webhost and just ask them to reset the connection stats on your server.

Then it will be fixed/work fine. Takes about 1 minute to do. (0.5 seconds when they do it)

Go into the FileZilla options... Click "Edit".. then "Settings" - on the list click on "File Transfer Setting" - untick the "Use multiple connections to transfer file"

It's now early in the morning for me, and I tried to find this "use multiple connections..." in file transfer settings but couldn't.

The wait and see method has also let me down.

All I did was log in with the correct password and try to upload one file and I got the dreaded "too many connections" message .
