Top Article Sites for Submission

I know some people say that mass article submission to hundreds of article directories is great. Others say that you should only submit to the top directories as most of the mass submission directories are worthless or spammy sites that could ultimately hurt your rankings.

1) whats your thoughts on this and 2) does anyone have a list of the top article directory site to manually submit to?

Thanks in advance

Try Ezine. It is the top and most fruitful and then comes others. Well, its true that you should be very careful while submitting as some sites are just spams. Well if you need the list of directories, you can get by Googleing. You'll get more helpful results.

If you want links then mass submissions can be very effective, however I'd stay with the directories that have a pagerank of 2 or above. If you want solid traffic then the gold standard is still Ezine. Buzzle is good but it is very difficult to get accepted now based on my own personal experience.

I would also go with GoArticles, ArticleBase, ArticleDashboard and Amazines. The majority of your traffic will come from Ezine though.

So you plan to submit your own articles to the directories which happened to be used by other authors who've chosen to build backlinks to (or send cheap traffic to) directory copies of their articles rather than to copies on their own sites?

I promise I don't mean it as a criticism, Greg, but I'd surely rather do the exact opposite, myself.

If I did what you're suggesting, I'd feel very uncomfortable indeed that I was following a method used by people ... how to put it politely ... whose objectives in building their businesses through article marketing are perhaps significantly different from my own, shall we say? If they're doing something that sends their traffic to other people's sites (and that's what they are doing, almost always, when the outcome's what you describe), why would I necessarily expect their judgment of which article directories to use to be any good?

Directly or indirectly, this subject has increasingly been creeping into article marketing threads and discussions here over the last couple of weeks. There seems to be quite a widespread inherent assumption (which I don't share at all!) that it's actually a good idea to try to copy the techniques, keyword selection, article directory selection, niches, websites and so on of authors who send their traffic to article directories.

Call me a skepchick, but I can't help wondering what proportion of those authors are still going to be in business a couple of years later?

Many of my articles in many different niches rank on the first page of Google, but the copies that are "up there" aren't the ones in article directories: they're the ones on my own sites. If I were going to copy other authors' ideas/techniques, I'd go for authors who send all their traffic, and build all their backlinks, to their own sites, because I have a far better feeling about their overall commercial longevity than that of people who have article directory articles ranking well on Google.

  • Focus on the quality directories and take the time to write articles that will actually get indexed and used.

    Quantity is useless.
