Back when i was in high school I often went to the lake where my grandparents lived and went fishing with my grandfather. Grandpa always knew where the big ones like to gather and had the right bait.

Grandpa had a full freezer with quart milk cartons stuffed with fish.

When we went out on the lake Grandpa always had a few lines in the water. This was so he could have a better chance of catching fish. He also had a line he checked on near the boat dock for catfish.

Why this story about fishing?

It is the same way about getting clients... You've got to have many lines in the water to catch the "Big Ones." Or at least to keep being fed.

This was also true when I was in the entertainment industry.

In Jan, I had a "Frosty's Birthday Party Show."

Feb. was "Teeth Are Neat" month. I also did school shows about reading or about motivation.

During the summer months I had a magic workshop booked all over. In addition, I also had a special, "Miracles of the Mind," show that I did for corporate and adult venues.

And in all the cases I had a variety of ways to get shows, i.e. direct mail, referrals, endorsements, sponsorships, free shows, give-aways, showcases, etc.

I had a lot of lines in the water. Each "line" did NOT take a lot of work to set up and keep going.

Getting consulting clients for me is also a matter of doing a number of small things that lead to a large basket.

Think about it. Everyone thinks about getting a boatload of leads and working through them. How about a steady stream of just the "perfect" lead that is EXACTLY what you need and want?

Fishing is a relaxing, enjoyable enterprise.

Why not make your client getting efforts as easy as putting a few lines out?

    That is a neat analogy - I love it - maybe I need to throw a few lines in the water instead of trying to catch everyone and everything with a net, lol.

        Oh so true! We all heard about "mulitple streams of income." Well the same applies to prospecting...."multiple streams of marketing."

        Like water, it will all your streams will "flow" down where your channel it into your "well"

    Your net has to be very strong so that if you catch more than enough fish, it will not break. And all your efforts will be a waste.


    Build a solid marketing strategy that will last for a very long time and stand the test of time no matter the number and personality of your clients.
