One way would be to make a 'lite' version with less features, get it approved in the WP repository, then upsell to takers (e.g. put a link in the admin panel), offering the full-featured version. As for affiliate selling, there are many ways, but I will leave that to someone else. My Wordbay plugin has had over 10,000 downloads, SOMETIMES I wish I had charged for it

Who says you can't earn money as an eBay affiliate any more? My stats say otherwise

Hello MarkOwe, Can you live from the plugin? I heard there is people that make thousands of $USD selling plugins, themes and other components not necessarilly limited to wp. I'm new in this and maked some bucks working for others, but I believe that others make money with them, so I can do the same. Do you know a case study or something else to start researching? -I will do that you suggest to me with the simple version, I heard the same from marketplaces suggestors.

      Thanks.

    1. Put a link to your salespage in your sig.
    2. Post in the JV forum here looking for partners.
    3. Of course, have a sales funnel/setup that makes it easy for affiliates to sign up and promote (e.g. $7script, RAP, Clickbank - whichever works better for you)

Charly, I think it is quite possible to live from a good plugin. I do not make any money from mine, but I guess if a few hundred of the 9,500-something (sorry, not quite 10,000, I was wrong!) who downloaded had paid $47 or whatever I would have at least a NICE addition to my income, though I would not be rich now.

What's the problem for me? Well, to provide a paying software product you have to provide SUPPORT too. I am just a hobby programmer and so I have to provide my plugin for free, as-is. I could NOT provide full-time support for it.

I am thinking of other ways to monetise, but I have not come up with a definite idea. I am open to ideas too

I initially sold my WP plugin through Rapid Action Profits and then moved to Clickbank where it earns me a pretty much auto-pilot income.

It depends on the type of plugin. What are you trying to sell? You can set up a newtwork of auto blogs promoting this plugin or create several web sites for it. You can also promote directly on the main word press site. I think you can pay for advertising. What benefit does your plugin offer?
