Formating problem in Wordpress

Hello everybody,

I've got a problem with formating my website's pages in Wordpress:
K A I Z E N M M A . C O M (sorry for the funky looking link, I still don't have 15 posts and am not allowed to post links)

As you can see it looks like **** now, but it use to look ok. As soon as I (or my IT) try to change the text (even slightly like deleting one word and writing another one in it's place), the entire text loses it's current format.

Recently, my IT tried adding small opt-in box in the sidebar, and a bigger one in the middle of the copy. It killed my page's formating.

What's even more interesting all the other pages (that were not changed) lost their formating as well !!! What the hell is going on?

My IT says that free Wordpress themes are not suitable for heavy duty formating (Direct Response style - the one I use), and that there are themes that can be purchased that are more "stable".

Is she right and what am I to do?

All I know is that my website is looking like **** and I'm loosing opt ins.

I was gonna try and help you but I actually don't see the formatting problems that you're talking about. Yes the blog looks pretty minimalist, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

I do see formatting such as centered text, bullet points, and italics so there IS formatting there. So I'm not really sure what you're talking about?

Also if you want to add something to the sidebar, make sure you're using a theme that supports "widgets".

Yes, there is formating, but not the kind I set up in the Wordpress dashboard. In there all looks good, but once you go to the page nothing is as it should be. For example some of the centered parts of the text shouldn't be centered at all (and they are not in the dashboard), but they appear to be.
Also look at the bullet points. Do you really think anyone would set them up like that?

Yes, I heard something about that. What do you suggest, deleting everything and writing the whole thing from scratch in WP?

Copy and paste your information into a text editor like TextPad for PC or TextEdit for Mac. Then enter the data back on to your blog. It has been a while since I had to do this...so I think you have to fix any links your post may have had.

Always post in WP or from a text eidtor. Never go from a word doc.

That summes it up very well. Never open Word when blogging

(and tell your IT person that every opened tag - like center - must be closed!
btw, I don't really know what you mean by IT person because words change meaning in different languages... but for this kind of job you need somebody who is fluent in HTML/CSS and not in programming languages!)

I brought it up in Firefox and in IE. It looks the same in each.

    Two things stood out:

1- the long headline in red seems to have no leading (space between lines). It is all bunched up.

2- Everything on the site is set with center justification. This only works for short headlines because the ragged left-hand side of the type make center justification difficult for the eyes to follow.

Good graphic design should make copy easy to read. Left is much easier on the eyes. People will tire quickly trying to read center justified type.

These are probably not part of a formatting change caused by you or your IT person adding an opt-in box, but rather the way the copy was typed.

We did type it to make it easy on the eyes, and it was until recently, but as I said it is looking good in the dashboard but even the slightest change causes the formating to go nuts (even if it still looks good in wordpress dashboard).

What can I do to change it? Should I re-write the whole thing in wordpress or is there an easier way?

I downloaded the TextPad and quite frankly I don't know how to use it. I have never even heard about text editors before, let alone used one.

I copy/pasted the text from Wordpresses rich text editor into TexPad and I thought it would come out formated or at least that I would have options like bold, italic, centered, font sizes and so on, but there are no options like those. Also it doesn't show the Serbian letters properly.

When I pasted it back to Wordpresses rich text editor it messed all of the page up (fortunately it was a draft) and the whole text turned red and with no spaces in between.

How exactly does the process of copy/pasting the content form text editor to Wordpress work? If I can only write plain text in TextPad, why not write it in Wordpress from the beginning?

Try using the "Paste From Word" option.

From post editor, toggle the "show/hide kitchen sink" (TinyMCE) button.
(a.k.a., click the button furthest on the right - it looks like a bunch of small colored squares)

This will show a second line of options for editing your post, two of which help with saving/removing formatted text you've copied.

The option I'm talking about is an icon that has the 'W" Word logo.
Click that icon, and it will provide a window for you to paste in formatted text that you copied from Word. It is used to save all formatting copied from your Word doc.

Another option available is an icon that has "T"/Text logo.
Click that icon, and it will provide a window for you to paste formatted text that you copied, except this will remove all formatting from the text you copied.

    Hope that helps.

This is really simple....you CAN use Word to write your blog posts and then paste them into Wordpress by clicking on the html tab and pasting it in there. I do this all the time and have never had an issue.

If I want to format anything I switch back to the "Visual" tab and apply any formatting I wish...underline, bold, create hyperlinks.

Yes, Word does add formatting tags that you can't see until you paste it into WP (or the EZA submission screen)...and just another little tip...you can then go the html tab and copy and paste your articles from there into the EZA submission page and the formatting works...it is compatible. It's quick and stupid easy...
