Hi guys,

I have few domains that link to each other.
Currently I host them all with Hostgator.

My questions are:
1. Are those links making a difference in this setup? Google doesn't show them yet so it makes sense "he" didn't fall for it but it may be just a matter of time...
I was told the sites need to be on different servers but others say it is doesn't matter

2. In case it's better to split hosts, what is your experience with Godaddy hosting? they have a nice offer for yearly. If it's not recommended, any other host I should team up with?

Thanks!

      Thanks, Daryl

The domain is indexed, it is the links that don't show up...
Google doesn't count them in the backlink list

Any good hosting recommendations aside from Hostgator?

Stay with Hostgator. I wouldn't split. It can take a while for google to show the backlinks but it doesn't mean they're not taken into account. These backlinks won't have a lot of weight as they are from the same IP but it's still good to link your sites together. Now if I were you I would work on creating backlinks from some high PR sites.

On page links to another domain have to be re-indexed (recrawl that page) before being attributed. As far as I can tell, same IP linking to 1place shouldn't matter to some extent, but if you have thousands of one-way links all "from" the same IP, this is probably suspect. In small quantity, doubt it matters. There are at most, 256^4 assignable IP's (not counting reserved blocks). Shared IP's are a necessity. I never fully understood the argument that diff IP's for each website matter. It doesn't seem logical, mathematically. Doesn't mean I'm right, but these are my feelings on links/IPs.

If you're used to cPanel then don't go with Godaddy, they don't have it.
There are some very cheap deals at the moment. Here's a list of current coupons.

Keep in mind that google has access to registrar information too, so different hosting may not help all that much.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

Regarding your links, Google usually won't show all of your backlinks so don't rely on their list.

Are you sure about that? Registrars don't usually share information with each other.

Registrar info has nothing to do with indexing.

Your sites all having the same IP is the issue.

      Thanks guys,

Yes, the "same IP" problem is what I am trying to solve

It is not one or two...

I have an online store and another website that used to be in SBI (Site Built It!) and I kept the domain. The purpose was to drive traffic from that site to the store.

I recently added to this site 29,000 pages (for every city in the US so I could be ranked high on local searches since this is a physical product that people usually buy locally). On each page I have a link to the store (well, more than one to that domain as I have the gallery there as well - so several links in each of the 29,000 pages). Now, this can attract some attention

I got the point re HostGator
I was trying to assure I will get a "very" different IP
Of course the IP will be different even with same physical location, but I thought it'll be better if one website is with HG and the other is, let's say, with BlueHost

    Am I wrong?

It shouldn't matter how "different" the IPs are, as long as they're not the same. I wouldn't even worry about this hosting issue, and unless you currently have 100+ websites residing on the same shared host server there's absolutely no reason to think about setting up another hosting account.

Hostgator has dedicated IPs for $2 per month but they only allow one IP per account, so that would not solve the IP issue.

Yes, a different host on a different server will give you a different IP.

You would have to ask them if they can put your account on a different server before you sign up for another one.

Try contacting them and explaining what you want to do, they'll let you know if they can or not.

If you feel the IP matters, go for it. Normally, the server you get for your hosting will be assigned automagically, and therefore your IP is just somewhat randomly assigned. If you still feel it matters you can pay for ded IP and make them even more unique. I never felt this way personally, but if you're going that way anyway, might as well front for a ded IP. (the shared host IP will have x,xxx - xx,xxx separate websites on that same IP; your ded IP is yours alone). 1 for each domain/host would be an extra 2-3 bucks each, tops (any hosting company, avg cost). Again, I don't feel it matters, but if you're gonna do it, then do it right.

LOL, some of us do have 100+ websites that do need different IPs for indexing. If they're all on the same shared server there will be indexing issues.

Well, since I have a dedicated IP (online store), the two websites in question have the exact same IP
    Would that change the answer?

I am not trying to spend more money on hosting, believe me, but I don't want to risk being penalized.

    I am asking as I don't know
