The importance of setting goals

Greeting warriors,

In the last 2 days, I've gotten a lot done for my IM business.
I found my niche(s), "got 2 of them" and I got started. 2 steps that took me a while.

2 days in and I can attest to you all that setting goals and having them on paper or notepad is crucial to this business.

It's so easy to get distracted and losing yourself.

So take this advice from me. I know it sounds obvious, but plan ahead and set goals.

I found the new ebook released by Anik Singal is amazing for helping to set goals.

It really helped me out

Thanks,

Mivka M.

I agree 100%. I cant see myself working without having goals set. even if its daily goals i.e writing 3 artilces and submitting per day, making 5 videos and uploading them per day and so on.

Now I also set income goals as well and try to get as close to them as I can but sometimes its kind of hard and other times its pretty easy. I mostly set my income goals quite high. That way if I don't hit it I am still happy with the amount I am bringing in (but this makes me work harder then next week or month or year).

It is so easy to get distracted. Best way to stay focused is to have a plan of action for each and every day and follow it. Also set goals/milestones and celebrated those achievements when you hit them.

Setting goals is important for any business.

    For IM it seems crucial!

I was never one to get distracted until I entered the IM world. I attribute this to the fact that IM is a fast paced, ever changing business with endless information available.

Setting goals helps keep the brain on straight!

Goal setting is bye far the most under rating activity that most fail to do. I've found in the past that when I want to achieve something, it help me tremendously to set realistic goals that have a date to achieve them works so much better for me because I can monitor whether I am actually achieving them. Without it you'll never know if what you're doing is working therefore not being able to make changes if you need to.

It's one thing that many, not only new, but seasoned marketers overlook. If I write it down, and put it somewhere I can see all of the time, it acts as a constant reminder and helps me focus.

Whats even more important is to set conditions and structures around yourself and towards your goal in a way that makes achieving it unevadible. I learned this from Eben and this started turning my life around.

Being FOCUSED is one benefit of setting goals. If you have clear goals and focus on them, you will get more of what you DO want and less of what you don't want.

You're right that it's crucial. I go through phases where I don't write down my goals (I still have them in my head) but I find that I get off track. It seems I need to physically write them to cement in my mind what I'm going to achieve that day.

By the way, if you're interested in setting goals etc then the "Mind Warriors" section of this forum is a great place to be

Writing is a very crucial component to solidifying the goals in your mind, and another issue related to this is time-related. Not only is goal-setting important, but you need to set soft and hard deadlines for your goals to ensure that you have tangible and measurable progress in a reasonable timeframe - otherwise deadly afflictions such as perfectionism or "analysis paralysis" could set in where you could essentially be spending lots and lots of time perfecting something within your project (like getting a logo or banner graphic just "right") that might keep your project from progressing into the stage where it actually becomes profitable, or you could spin your wheels with indecision and stay stuck at a certain stage in your project due to fear of failure and/or commitment.

I disagree - I've never done that it's lasted me 10 years in IM so far.

This is all just down to personal preference. Some people like to set goals and have worksheets - some don't.

It's not - "essential to success"
